Hello Neighbor is a stealth horror game created by Dynamic Pixels and published by tinyBuild. Originally released as an alpha build on the developer's site than on Steam Greenlight the game quickly garnered the attention of the gaming community. The game would go through 1 pre-alpha, 4 alphas, and finally a beta before launching this week.

In the game, players take control of a person who has recently moved into a small town. Since moving in he notices that his neighbor has been acting strangely including barricading his basement. Instead of calling the police, like a normal person, you decide to take a more rational approach and break into his home to try and find out what's in the basement for yourself. All while avoiding the Neighbor.

Hello Neighbor stands out from other survival-horror games by providing one enemy to avoid. The Neighbor's AI allows him to adapt to the player's tactics and modify not only his behavior but the traps littered around his home. He'll learn hiding spots commonly used by the player, preferred tactics, and set traps frequent the player's desired path.

The main focus is remaining unnoticed and sneaking through his large home using various tools littered around the estate to aid you. If he notices you the Neighbor will chase you down and update his home base on your previous actions. This includes setting up boards where you smashed windows, adding cameras, and blocking doors with chairs.

The Neighbor isn't invulnerable and can be hindered. By turning his own traps against him players can halt the Neighbor. This includes blinding him with fireworks or using his own bear traps against him. All while using various tools such as a hammer, flashlight, and other items to get to the basement.

Fear rooms were introduced in Alpha 4 and give the player the chance to unlock new techniques such as double jump, back-off, and invisibility from crouching. They also break up the hide and sneak system by providing new challenges for the player to overcome, mostly focusing on puzzle solving and platforming. Many have hypothesized that these rooms are important to the Neighbor 's background. Until we see what he's hiding this is just a theory.
