F.E.A.R 3: What to expect

SPOILER ALERT!!!!! Events from Fear and Fear 2 are mentioned in some parts!!

 

Although it is pretty late, but I finished playing FEAR 2 just now. I would say the game is quite intense with intense feeling and heart stopping action. Although FEAR 2 was quite like FEAR 1, but still there is something in the gameplay that kept me hooking for a while. You can say FEAR series is just like any other generic FPS series. Such a generic game should have a level of boredom attached to it, but it is not. It kept me hours to finish this game (even knowing I have got office next day). Now we await for yet another FEAR coming out. I wasn’t hyped about this game for the simple reason being I thought FEAR is quite generic but the story and build up that FEAR 2 left off is surely driving me to get this game along with Duke Nukem (I only play single player campaigns since I can’t focus most of my time on multiplayers).

The way the story ended in FEAR 2, I think I expect the game to be either the final chapter of the series or just yet another sequel. It all depends on whether or when the 3rd Prototype (Alma will start the game as a pregnant woman as a result of the final events in FEAR 2).  The 3rd Prototype could provide new twists or turns or even could be the new Alma provided if Alma gets destroyed in FEAR 3. The game will mark the return of the Point Man (the protagonist of FEAR 1), who will team up with the main antagonist of FEAR 1, Pexton Fettel. The game will also bring back Michael Becket who is the main protagonist of FEAR 2. Based on some of the trailers they have shown, it seems that Pexton Fettel teamed up with the Point Man for some unknown reasons (he definitely has a motive behind it). The Point Man is on his own and there might a possibility of decision making (if there is decision system included) where the Point Man may either team up with Alma to destroy everything or the remaining FEAR squad (in this case Morales and Stokes, if she is alive) and to save the world. Whatever decision he does (if he does), one of his mission will be killing off Armacham Technology Corporation. Fettel could be either a protagonist or the antagonist since his motive is unknown. Things got better with the inclusion of Bennett. The developers gave Becket as one of the five crucial things in the story that is kept secret. In one of the trailers, Becket was seen having freed from the amplifier, who shouts at either Point Man or Fettel “I know who you are. You’re her bastard son!” Becket also shouted “You cannot beat love!” He was heard laughing maniacally. It seemed that Becket was driven mad after the events in Fear 2. The speeches he gave in the trailer may give a hint that he might the main antagonist provided if the Point Man teams up with FEAR squad to destroy Alma and the 3rd Prototype. What players will expect is nothing short of unpredictability in the story. To make things interesting, the script is written by horror writer Steve Niles and directed by filmmaker John Carpenter.

Speaking of unpredictability, the game will include a mechanism called “generative scare system” which changes the placement and timing of enemies that will appear on each playthrough. The game will include a new co-op feature due to the fact the players can control both the Point Man and Fettel. Point Man will have standard combat abilities whereas Fettel will have psychotic abilities. In the multiplayer mode, there are four game modes: F***ing Run, Contractions, Soul survivor and soul king. F***ing run features 4 players running around the enemies while escaping Alma’s “Wall of Death.” “Contractions” is somewhat like Gears of Wars Hordes mode of COD World at War Nazi Zombies mode, where you stock up ammos and kill waves of enemies. Soul Survivor features 4 players pinned down against each other, where one of them is a Spectre who has to possess enemies to kill the other three players and turn them to Spectres. Soul Survivors features all players as Spectres who have to possess enemies to kill each other and collect dropped souls.

 

FEAR 3 will be going to be released on June 21st for 360, PS3 and PC. You can pre order the game right now from your favorite game store. I cant wait to play this game just for the story itself since there are so many unpredictable events in the story itself. I just play for the story anyway.
