When you first arrive in the Mining Colony, you have no weapons. You can easily get a Shortbow by helping an NPC named Drax.

Find the Hunter's Knife

Make your way to the back of the Main Road. Clear out any Threats you encounter so you can search the ground. Walk past the combat zone to find a Corpse.

Take the Arrows from it. Look toward the Small Hill just beyond that body. You will spot a Hunter's Knife on the ground. Make sure to grab it, as it is the Important Item you need to start the Quest in Gothic 1 Remake.

Trade with Drax

Start walking toward the Old Camp. Watch the right side of the Trail until you see Drax and his Companion. Start a Conversation with Drax and give him a bottle of Beer. This reveals a new Dialogue Choice.

Use it to give him the Hunter's Knife. He will hand over a Shortbow for your Reward. Keep in mind that this Weapon is great for Small Enemies, but try not to waste your Arrows on easy Targets in Gothic 1 Remake.
