Hearthstone Expansion Launches Next Month
News by LukeLuby on Nov 08, 2014
Blizzard Entertainment have announced the newest expansion in the Hearthstone series - titled Goblins Vs Gnomes - will be released next month. The expansion - which was announced at the opening ceremony of this year's Blizzcon - will feature another 120 new cards; including one that's equipped with an explosive sheep. You can watch the trailer for the expansion below.
A new expansion was announced previously when Activision CFO Dennis Durkin spoke about how well received Heartstone has been, though at the time, the expansion remained unnamed. Activision and Blizzard were surprised when Hearthstone became the huge success that it is today. Mr Durkin had said that the key to Heartstone's success was "strong engagement and monetisation". Mike Morhaime, the president and co-founder of Blizzard said of Hearthstone:
“Similar to our other franchises, the key to ongoing engagement in Hearthstone is new content… and our developers are already working on a full expansion that will include over 100 new cards. It’s an exciting time to be a Blizzard gamer, and we look forward to celebrating with our players this Friday at BlizzCon.”
Currently, Hearthstone has over 20 million players worldwide, a staggering figure that many people hadn't seen coming, even those at Activision and Blizzard, as mentioned above. Goblins Vs Gnomes - like the rest of Hearthstone - will be free to play.
