Is Shadow Mewtwo Patient Zero?
Should Shadow Mewtwo return?

Magearna is the latest legendary Pokemon to join the Pokemon universe but Mewtwo's new shadow form is still one of the most popular recent additions to the Pokemon roster. Introduced as the final boss in Pokken Tournament Shadow Mewtwo is a fierce opponent, but according to an interview with producer Masaaki Hoshino Shadow Mewtwo may remain in Pokken Tournament limbo. Can Shadow Mewtwo become a full fledge addition to the Pokemon universe?
Hoshino elaborated on the creation of Shadow Mewtwo. Essentially developers at Namco Bandai loved Mewtwo and decided to create a darker version of the psychic Pokemon. While pleased with their creation Hoshino explained that Shadow Mewtwo’s continue use remained in the hands of The Pokemon Company and Game Freak. While Polygon, who conducted the interview with Hoshino, reached out to The Pokemon Company regarding the quarry with a representative responding with “No comment” Shadow Mewtwo is a possible character in the Pokemon universe.
While many have been hoping for a 3D Pokemon adventure one was already created. Pokemon Colosseum introduced the concept of Shadow Pokemon, Pokemon whose hearts have been darkened artificially. Shadow Mewtwo seems to be different.
The Shadow Pokemon are created artificially whereas Shadow Mewtwo hasn’t been shown to undergo the same process. It can be argued that Mewtwo’s transformation is natural, perhaps due to the crystal sticking out of the Pokemon’s body. It’s possible this could be a future story where natural Shadow Pokemon start to inflict the world and Mewtwo is Patient Zero.
This is all speculation and Shadow Mewtwo, at this point, is simply a creation from Namco Bandai. While his new shadow form would set the perfect edifice to start a brand new story revolving around Shadow Pokemon it’s up to The Pokemon Company and Game Freak. Hopefully this won’t be the last time we this Shadow Mewtwo.
