Killzone 2 - The first 4 hours...
Games by ILIAS on Feb 27, 2009
I woke up this morning and rushed to the shop to see if the game was available. Surprisingly it was. I say surprisingly because usually games ship a bit late in Greece and when I say a bit late, I mean a couple of weeks later than the official release date. But enough with the moan, let's get straight to it.
Fantastic intro. Even if you haven't played the first game of the series, you really have a clue and get you hyped on what is coming next. Very atmospheric music anthem, it's something between the anthem of Star Wars for the Empire, turning into a more militaristic $tyle as in the movie The Rock.
You will see a nicely designed layout for the difficulty selection which is RECRUIT (for players with little FPS experience), TROOPER (player with some FPS exp.), VETERAN (lots of FPS exp.) and ELITE which is locked for the time being.
Game starts and you have woken up, you don't have time to waste, the invasion has begun.
What I saw after 4 hrs of continuous gaming:
- Lovely cut scenes prior and after every mission. They add much of the drama that already is taking place and helps the plot.
- Visuals and graphics are simply awesome; in fact they are the best EVER I have seen in a game (the 40'' HDTV Z4500 SONY helped a lot to that).
- Not a big variety of enemies and bosses haven't impressed me much so far (subject to change).- Very nice selection of weapons. I don't like the fact that I cannot swap my handgun for a rifle.
- Epic gameplay. In a few words, if you don't move, you 're a sitting duck (at least on VETERAN difficulty that I'm playing). You must constantly move, mostly preferred from cover to cover (as in real life battles, a good cover saves your life and gives you an advantage if you haven't been spotted). The enemies also take cover so it won't be easy to take them down, aiming is either an issue OR I'm just used to Resistance 2. As you understand, it's not just run and shoot, if you don't follow at least some basic tactics, you 're history.
- Most of the times you search and destroy, as it happens in almost every FPS. Both close and open environments are very nicely displayed.
- I also took the time to play some multiplayer and I liked the rewards system. It will add many hours of playing. I noticed that there are servers depending on the region you select, dunno how accurate is that. ILIAS, OVER AND OUT...
