Why Lenovo Handheld Prices Are Skyrocketing in 2026?
Dramatic overnight retail price adjustments impact high performance Z1 Extreme and Z2 Go model configurations.

There is an immense paradigm shift in the landscape of handheld gaming hardware, as manufacturing costs and global economic forces collide. Whereas there was a time when portable PCs were considered a relatively cheaper alternative to the conventional consoles, the latest trends indicate a sudden shift in this direction.
Large-scale manufacturers are also changing their MSRPs in substantial ways, indicating a new reality in the technology industry where the cost of sourcing components and logistical challenges have rendered past price levels unsustainable.

New All-Time High Prices on Lenovo Devices
Lenovo is also increasing prices significantly again, this time on the Legion Go S devices. This comes in the wake of the latest news on the Legion Go 2, where the Z2 Extreme model has skyrocketed in price to $1,000, up from its initial release price of approximately $1,349.
Moreover, the 2TB version of that 2000-priced model has been increased to 2849, although it initially sold at 1479. These changes are a titanic wave of hardware with large SSDs. These shifts are influenced by numerous global factors, including politics, tariffs, the AI boom, RAM and storage shortages, and the rising cost of acquiring materials. All these factors are already influencing the pricing of handheld technology and PCs.
New Pricing Standards of Legion Go S
By April 21, 2026, Lenovo Legion Go S prices are once again on the rise. Ryzen Z1 Extreme is currently priced at $1,579, and the Z2 Go model is at $989. The initial price of these units was considerably lower when they were initially considered. At almost 1,000 dollars, it is hard to recommend the Z2 Go as a worthwhile purchase, even though it was a decent buy when it was discounted at launch.
This is already being realized in the overnight skyrocket in key retail partners such as Best Buy in the US. The Steam OS model, which features a Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of SSD storage, now sports that 1579.99 price tag. In the meantime, the Z2 Go model with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD is available for $989.
Relative Value and History
Given the current market, you may be better off selecting a system such as the Xbox One X, which costs $999, but comes with the trade-offs of its hardware. Earlier, these Lenovo systems were priced at $899 and $ 649. Still, even those prices were a result of previous price increases. The increase to $1,579 on the Z1 Extreme model is a 75 percent increase of 680.
Z2 Go version has increased by 52%, to 340. Lenovo is not the only one to experience this trend; other devices, such as the ION Thor, have also experienced price increments, and even projects have been canceled. Lenovo has been especially aggressive in these changes, however.

Final Thoughts
Z1 Extreme, which had 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, was already a contention in terms of price eight months ago. The price of the original product was set at $749 when pre-ordered, but it increased to 830 before the actual release. By 2025, handhelds were generally more expensive, and $830 was high at the time.
Since that time, its price has fluctuated to $899 in the 2025 tariff changes and is currently at $1,579. A device that used to be something easy to recommend has now become very difficult to support at these levels. Although the Legion Go line is still popular for performance and form factor, the high prices in the nuts could kill its growth. Hopefully, other market competitors such as MSI, Asus, and Xbox can avoid such 50-75 percent price increases, as their sudden surges alter the value proposition for every gamer.
