Lenovo sent new drivers for the original Legion Go Z1 Extreme in April 2026. As part of the January update for the Legion Go Z1 Extreme, the latest versions add new drivers for the GPU, chipset, and power management.

Lenovo still supports the original Legion Go, even though changes don't come out very often.

Updated Drivers for the Original Legion Go

The Lenovo support page now lists several new drivers for the original Legion Go Z1 Extreme. In addition to the January 2026 BIOS release, the most recent April 23 release includes new GPU, chipset, and power management drivers.

The GPU is dated April 2026, but the driver itself was dated January 8, and is identical to the 26.1.1 driver Lenovo released this past weekend for the new Legion Go 2. It is the latest driver from Lenovo, though not the latest from AMD.

Downloading the Updates

To access these updates, they are only currently available on the Lenovo support site. Legion Space, Windows Update, and the Microsoft Store didn't have access to these updates at the time of writing.

To get to the support page from Legion Go, select the Quick Access menu on the left, where the device is automatically identified. You can also search for them manually on Lenovo's support page. Now, select the manual update option to choose each package.

What you need are the three files: GPU Driver, AMD Chipset Driver, and Power Management Driver. If you have installed the ROG Ally drivers before, the installation is the same. You can use this method to upgrade Lenovo drivers or ASUS drivers.

Installing the Power Management Driver

It's best to download the smallest, the power management driver first. Once the installer is running, choose Install, not Extract. You will be guided through the installation process; just click Next until it finishes.

It's a very quick and straightforward installation.

Installing the AMD Chipset Driver

Then, install the chipset driver. Double-click the file you downloaded, accept the license agreement, and select Install instead of Extract Only.

After installation, you will be prompted to reboot. You can do this now or wait until you are ready to install the GPU driver.

Installing the New GPU Driver

There is no difference with the GPU driver. Open the installer, accept the agreement, and select the full Install.

The installer properly installs the AMD driver and Adrenalin software, unlike previous releases. You don't have to install Adrenalin from the Microsoft Store. Once installed, it automatically reverted to the landscape orientation.

Then it's simply a matter of another reboot.

AMD Adrenalin Version 26.1.1

When it's all done, AMD Adrenalin should be version 26.1.1. This is the version that Lenovo recently released for the Legion Go 2 Z2 Extreme.

If you are having trouble with Adrenalin, make sure to check the Microsoft Store for updates. However, in our case, the installer handled this.

Performance Improvements in Gaming

We played several games after the upgrade to see how the performance stacks up against the original Lenovo driver and the new side-loaded ROG Ally driver.

Cyberpunk 2077 showed almost identical performance. The new Lenovo driver was within 1 fps of the ROG Ally driver across three benchmark runs. The numbers were similar, but the gameplay was smoother.

Pragmata continued to perform well. With frame generation on, there were 40-60fps with a combination of high and medium settings, reduced texture quality, and upscaling due to memory restrictions.

Crimson Desert continued to perform well, at par or better than before.

Better Than Previous Official Drivers

The new Lenovo driver was comparable to or better than the previous official Legion Go driver across all the games we tested. It also performed close to the unofficial Lenovo drivers for the ROG Ally, which previously led to better performance. So you don't have to install side-loaded drivers to achieve similar performance.

Lenovo's Support of Legacy Legion Go Continues.

These may not be the most recent AMD updates, but they offer benefits to Legion Go owners. The GPU, chipset, and power management driver updates are crucial for stability and long-term compatibility.

There might not be many updates for the original Legion Go in the future. Still, Lenovo has given its first handheld another great update.
