Lord Lee Chapter 1
Writing by Demoman on Sep 15, 2010
Chapter 1 of the novel I am writing. If y'all like it, I may post more of it.
The kingdom of Lord Lee was not overly rich, or overly large. Twas a small kingdom
with a small budget. It was nestled on a mountain behind a forest, so no one
ever came through. They had a great view of the valley, which was a popular site
for many battles. The knights had little to do but to gamble on the battles.
"Prize, I'll bet 10 pieces of silver the guys on the left will win."
"You don't have 10 pieces of silver."
"I never said they'd be my 10 pieces. What Lord Lee doesn't know, won't get me
killed for theft."
"Just be sure Light doesn't catch you either, or else he'll lecture you about
all sorts of holy nonsense."
"Is it a bet then?"
"Sure, 10 pieces on the guys to the right."
"Prize, Loin, what are you two doing?"
"Enjoying the afternoons entertainment. What about you, Kit?"
"Wondering were Loin's gonna get the silver to pay you. The guys on the right
have the clear advantage."
"What's wrong with the guys on the left?
"They ain't right."
"Funny."
"They also have no cavalry, not enough archers, and are gonna be retreating any
minute now."
"Says wh.....that's them retreating now isn't it?"
"Yep, time to pay the Prize."
"Then we have to go and talk to Lord Lee. He says we have some quest to do."
"Quests never end well."
The three join the others in the lord's court.
"What's with the new table, my lord?"
"I heard Arthur had a round table, so I thought I'd get one too. Problem is, I
could only afford half of a round table. Next month, I plan on getting the other
half."
"He has the knights of the round, so are we the knights of the semi-circle?"
"Knights of the Half-Round doesn't roll off the tongue as well."
"Are you all done insulting my table?"
"Yes, the jokes ran stale."
"Good. Knight Light has proposed we go and collect something holy to put as a
trophy on my mantle. Anything from a grail to a hand grenade will work. Just as
long as its name begins with Holy I don't care."
"What about a Holy Guacamole?"
"I bet we could find that in Holy Toledo."
"Light, Take Sir Prize, Loin, and Kit and find the holy artifacts. I'll
stay here and await your return."
"I'll do my best to keep them out of trouble, sir."
"You sure that can be done, Light?"
"I said I'd do my best, not that I'd succeed."
"You aren't finding me a holy relic by sitting at my table, so you are free to
leave."
"How much are we to stay?"
"900 pieces of gold, since no one can afford that you'd best be leaving."
The knights go outside the castle gates and begin planning their next move.
"So where exactly are we supposed to find a holy relic. Its not like they are
lying around everywhere."
"What if we just grab something and say it is holy. He won't know any better."
"Because that would be lying, Prize. There is no such thing as an honorable
liar. We have a duty as knights and we must fulfill it. The relic will benefit
the entire kingdom."
"If some of us get killed Light, I'm blaming you. Since you are the most gung-ho
about this, you show us where to go."
"With pleasure."
Knight Light leads the group eastward, towards the holy land. Instead of just
taking the highway like everyone else, Light decides to make the journey long
and arduous by going over the river and through the woods among other hazards.
Partially because the journey's toughness should help the others shape up into
proper knights, but mostly because his mother told him highways are the devil.
