Minor Gaming Update!
Games by DeltaX on Feb 23, 2010
Alright, so I took the initiative and finally started looking/buying/obtaining games for the time being. So I'll go through them now.
Sacrifice:
Made by Interplay games back in the day. A mix between third-person RPG/RTS. Lots of fun. Hasn't really been a game like it since. You get units and spells depending on which god you serve under. Definitely has unique gameplay mechanics, and having formations (not like those crappy line-up formations you see these days in RTSs) is definitely a boon (speaking of boons, they're how your guy levels up; complete missions for your god, and you can receive a "boon", which are usually things like increased heatlh, mana, defense, and regeneration).
Alien vs. Predator 2:
Okay, this is a lot of fun, too. Marine campaign gives plenty of jumps. Predator campaign, I haven't really tried yet. Alien campaign is a joke. You can't even wall run, ceiling run, crouch, hide in the dark, or in the vents; it doesn't matter, the marines will ALWAYS see you. Really ticks me off, because the only thing you do is mulch marines and climb through vents. Good game for its time though, and still a lot of fun. I heard the multiplayer was intense, but servers are dead for me.
Throne of Darkness:
Actually, one of the older RPGs comparable to Diablo, but it has a party system and the setting is in feudal Japan, where the Demon Warlord has taken over the land, killed most of your house's soldiers, leaving 7 samurai to defeat him. I played the demo for this game from an old PC gamer disc back in the day, and loved it to death. I spent the longest time looking for it before I gave up. I recently had a whim and looked it up, and there it was. Lots of fun to play, though highly pixelated and choppy (which is how it runs, but looks very choppy compared to Diablo).
Mechcommander 2:
Wasn't as great as I thought it would be. I love the Battletech universe, but this game feels strangely empty for some reason. Maybe because I don't have enough 'Mechs to blow stuff up with. Or the better ones like the Blood Asp, Atlas, or Mad Cat. I think I preferred the MechWarrior: Living Legends mod for Crysis.
Stronghold:
The best for the last, baby! I borrowed this game from my friend 2 years ago, and started playing it because I was bored. I fell in love with this game. The original castle building sim, with a decent and humorous campaign mixed in with great voice acting; building your own castle from scratch is a lot more fun than you think. Definitely worth a try to any PC gamer out there, even you console fans, too.
Now, all the games on the list are pretty old. I think I preferred it back in the old days compared to the mediocre games we have these days (back in the day, video games were touted for having quality).
