Mobile Gaming Is The Future

Opinion by JohnSnow on  Oct 20, 2020

Even if you don’t call yourself a gamer, if you unlock your phone right now and flip through it you probably have some kind of game app installed. Mobile gaming has been dominating the gaming landscape for a good long while, and we don’t see it declining anytime soon. There’s something about having a portable game everywhere you go that makes people into more loyal players than even they thought they could be.

Mobile gaming has advanced so much over the past few years that it’s taking up a large chunk of the global income for gaming worldwide. According to a study conducted by Global Games Market, $38.6 billion of the $101.1 billion raked in by the gaming industry in 2016 was via the mobile gaming sector. The company projects that by 2020, more than half of the annual gross income will be through the mobile sector.

And we can see why the mobile industry is doing so well, and why it isn’t a bad thing that mobile gaming is so entertaining. It’s down to one main reason: mobile games are really good. They’re not some kind of sub-par games when compared to video games or computer games. In fact, we’ve created a run-down of some of our favorite mobile apps which originated as video games, and which are just as good (if not better) on mobile as on a computer screen or television screen.

Online, Mobile, Gaming

It’s easy enough to convert classic console games to mobile apps, like example Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Atari All-Stars. They don’t have any complicated programming, they don’t have high-definition graphics and animation, they don’t have complex gameplay. But more and more modern console games are also making their way to mobile platforms like phones and tablets:

1. Assassin’s Creed: The first Assassin’s Creed was released in 2007 (wow, it’s already been 10 years) and was relatively successful. When it hit Nintendo DS platforms, it became a huge success. Now it’s on mobile, so you can travel backward in time while riding the bus or relaxing by the sea.

2. Grand Theft Auto Vice City: You can now also sleep with hookers and shoot someone’s head off while riding the bus or relaxing by the sea. GTA doesn’t lose any of its quality graphics and gameplay in its mobile app translation.

3. FIFA: You can’t get much better than this when it comes to gaming classics. Everyone loves a bit of FIFA, and now you can access it anytime on mobile too. All you have to do is download it.

Not to mention that mobile gaming is also dominating the online casino world and really does seem to be the future. Recent reports show that mobile casinos are also on the rise, especially with the Northern American demographic. About 85% of social casino players use mobile phones and tablets for their gaming needs. 27% of those are exclusively using phones (meaning not even tablets are figuring into this equation). What’s more, levels of desktop use have fallen drastically just from 2016 to 2017. Similar to the Global Games Market projections, it’s probable that by 2020 mobile casinos will be responsible for a lot of the income in the iGaming industry. Mobile games truly seem to be dominating the landscape.

In fact, when I’m in the mood for some fun and I log into one of the online casinos I use, I mostly do it through my phone. When you’re constantly on the go and you just want something to help take the edge off, a mobile casino game can easily do the trick. There’s nothing a little risk mixed in with a little money can’t help with, and it’s doubly better if I can do it while I’m waiting in line for something. And, let me tell you, there is 0 difference between a slot game on desktop and a slot game on mobile.

With every day that goes by, more games are being either built entirely for mobile or built with mobile in mind. The phrase ‘mobile games’ is inevitable, but it shouldn’t sound like a bad word. It definitely doesn’t signal the end of gaming as we know it. Mobile gaming is capable of being a high-quality and immersive as console gaming. It just happens to be slightly more convenient.
