My new PC

Rant by ILIAS on  Jan 15, 2010

I'm sure you‘ve noticed my small absence the last couple of days. As much as you‘d like to hear that this occurred because of Liverpool’s recent defeat in F.A. Cup by Reading, well that wouldn’t be true.

My old PC died last Tuesday with a way that people die sometimes. I left for work having switched it off normally as always, but when I came back at night, it just wouldn’t start. I tried all of my tricks, even one of the oldest ones, by pressing the start button for about a minute with the whole system unplugged but it was useless. As the specialist said, it was a matter of time to happen. The motherboard was completely useless, same thing goes for the power supply. Eventually, I gave away the RAM too. The only thing that survived was the 500GB Western Digital hard disk.

So, I was about to make a brand new purchase, it had to be good and it had too be fast. Originally, I was thinking of buying a new PC somewhere near March or April at the latest, but as we say in Greece “every bad thing comes with a good one”.  Without adding anything further, here’s my new toy.

Specifications:
3.2GHz Intel Core i5 650
Windows 7 Professional (64bit)
4GB DDR3 RAM
2x500Gb Western Digital hard disk (7200rpm)
P7P55D LE Asus Motherboard
1GB PCI Express Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5750
LG GH22NS50 Black DVD-RW +/-

I didn’t want the case to be either very big or very small, so I chose something good, light and manageable. I also secured my new PC with the best internet security in the market, Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. My next step would be to get a HD monitor. I don’t want it to be an LCD-TV monitor, as I’d prefer to have better analysis and resolution. I’m open to suggestions, so if you have anything good to recommend, don’t be so shy to let me know.
