Happy Father's Day! We thought we would celebrate today by sharing our favourite video game dad with you, and the award goes to…

Bowser, or King Koopa to some, may be the main antagonist in the majority of Mario games, but we think he is simply misunderstood.

He is the father to no fewer than eight children, seven of which originally appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 way back in 1989, and are known as the Koopalings. The eighth, and arguably his favourite – Bowser Jr. – debuted in Super Mario Sunshine in 2002, and has since took over many of his father’s responsibilities, making it likely that he’ll take the throne one day.

Bowser is a very protective father, constantly ensuring his children don’t perish. Those pesky plumbers and mushroom-headed freaks have tried on many occasions, but he somehow always finds a way of getting his children to safety. He’s very dedicated in what he does, and though what he does involves world domination; he’s simply trying to make a good future for them.

His hobbies include plotting the death of Mario, go-karting, breathing fire, acupuncture, and reading murder mystery novels, oddly enough.

In his spare time he likes long walks through lava-filled dungeons and more recently has been baffled by astronomy.
