Now Playing: Dead Space Edition

At a time that the sequel was announced at E3 and the fans are already excited with the game, I received a package from Ireland with Dead Space, it was a gift from a friend and he also gave another game, but that I won't say a word...at least for now. Dead Space fits in the survival horror genre and it has an unique atmosphere in my opinion. Dark and scary environment and it isn't recommended for the youngest gamers. Played until the 5th chapter and I am simply loving it! At the beginning I wasn't sure about that because it took me a couple of hours to get used to the controls and gameplay features, but now that the learning process is done, Dead Space should keep me busy for a while.

You control Isaac Clarke, an engineer sent to a mining colony in the depths of space. In the future, humans - according to the plot - will depend on the minerals found on distant planets. To this end, huge ships are sent, and literally dissect entire planets, piece by piece. Isaac is sent to investigate one of the most famous of these ships, the Ishimura, which has been in business for much longer than other spacecraft. In addition, Isaac also has telekinetic abilities that allow him to throw away items or explosives on opponents, and the ability to slow the Necromorphs by freezing time.

The terror is guaranteed by some very creative decisions. First, none Necromorph can be killed by conventional means, and there are some who are more aggressive after having his head torn off. The most effective tactic is to dismember the monsters, removing the members that they provide greater effectiveness in combat: the arms sickle-shaped in some, the appendices and other explosives in the case of the giant Brute, small legs that sustain the creature. This ends up requiring quick thinking and intensifies the experience, especially in later levels. Each encounter, then, is a challenge that, although repetitive, generates much-needed sense of urgency to a Survival Horror.

The sound is an integral part of the experience. EA has developed a system that increases the intensity of violently background sound when you face a high tension situation or even a nasty surprise decides to scare you. The corridors of the ship are ocasionally taken by an uncomfortable latent silence, broken by the sound of pipes and electrical system of the old Ishimura. Dead Space deserves to be played. With a competent plot , a good artistic focus of interest and even some mechanisms put into the mix, the game will please fans of action games or those who are searching for some good scares.
