Kalypso Media already knows how to make strategy building games. With Tropico, it has a franchise that has been steadily going the course for some time now. The developer from this series now takes that momentum elsewhere and adds to it in Omerta: City of Gangsters. A crime syndicate empire in the making, this title throws in turn-based combat sequences amidst its city exploration and house flipping methods.
A short stint into this prohibition New World sees similar elements return from Tropico titles. A clean interface, good map overlook and diversity in buildings set the basis for this strategic gameplay that combines trade, strong-arm tactics and shootouts with cover elements. The inclusion of these turn-based fights certainly alters the game’s pace from just finding solid micromanagement schemes and keeping the peace among the populace. Since our run only lasts an hour in all, we can expect a ton more diversity to follow when characters join, level up and enhance their skills in the mafia universe.
