Lion Dogs are collectible creatures hidden throughout Kyoto and several other areas in Onimusha: Way of the Sword. There are 36 Lion Dogs to find, and rescuing them unlocks new sword appearances.

This guide covers all 36 Lion Dog locations in Onimusha: Way of the Sword, including where to find every Lion Dog and how to unlock the For the Love of Dog trophy.

How to Unlock Lion Dogs

Lion Dogs become available after completing What Lurks in the Shadows. Once unlocked, their locations are marked on the map with pawprint icons, making them much easier to track.

Lion Dogs in areas outside Eastern Kyoto become available after the corresponding area has been liberated and its final boss defeated. You can also track your progress through the Curious Cases menu.

Kiyomizu-dera Temple Lion Dog Locations

There are three Lion Dogs to find in Kiyomizu-dera Temple.

Lion Dog 1: Head north from the Nio-nom Gate Spirit Mirror and follow the path until you reach the Malice Barrier. The Lion Dog is behind the barrier.
Lion Dog 2: Travel to the Temple Grounds and enter the room where you fight Sasaki Ganryu. The Lion Dog is inside.
Lion Dog 3: Head west from the waterfall toward the burning town. The Lion Dog is located inside the town.

Nijo-jo Castle Lion Dog Locations

There are three Lion Dogs in Nijo-jo Castle.

Lion Dog 4: From the Nijo-jo Castle Entrance Spirit Mirror, follow the main path through the Gardens. The Lion Dog is west of the Spirit Mirror.
Lion Dog 5: Travel to the Kyoto Imperial Palace and head south from the Palace Interior Spirit Mirror.
Lion Dog 6: Head north from the Nue Pond Spirit Mirror to find the Lion Dog nearby.

Mount Oe Lion Dog Locations

Onimusha: Way of the Sword Mount Oe lion dog location

Mount Oe contains six Lion Dogs.

Lion Dog 7: Follow the main path forward from the Mount Oe Entrance.
Lion Dog 8: Head north from the Ruins Area I Spirit Mirror and check the western side of the nearby house.
Lion Dog 9: Travel south from the Ruins Area II Spirit Mirror and enter the nearby building. The Lion Dog is in the attic.
Lion Dog 10: After taking the elevator down from the Castle Entrance Spirit Mirror, follow the short path north.
Lion Dog 11: Head east from the Cave I Spirit Mirror and search the nearby house.
Lion Dog 12: Look near the Storehouse Spirit Mirror to find the final Lion Dog in Mount Oe.

Arashiyama Lion Dog Locations

There are three Lion Dogs in Arashiyama.

Lion Dog 13: Travel west from the Hozu River Spirit Mirror and follow the village to the dead end. The Lion Dog is inside a house.
Lion Dog 14: Head south from the Togetsu-kyo Bridge Spirit Mirror and reach the center section of the bridge. This area must be accessed from the Hozu River side.
Lion Dog 15: Travel north from the Temple Spirit Mirror and check outside the nearby house.

Eastern Kyoto Lion Dog Locations

Eastern Kyoto contains the remaining 21 Lion Dogs, making it the largest collection area.

Lion Dog 16: Found behind the buildings south of Emma's Hall.
Lion Dog 17: Head west of Emma's Hall and search the small shrine area.
Lion Dog 18: Travel west from the Kiyomizu-zaka Slope Spirit Mirror until you reach the dead end.
Lion Dog 19: Look for the shrine behind the merchant at Yorimasa's Monument.
Lion Dog 20: Head to the tower next to the Yasaka Pagoda Spirit Shrine.
Lion Dog 21: Search behind the houses south of the Kiyomizu-zaka Slope Spirit Mirror.
Lion Dog 22: The Lion Dog is inside the courtyard of Emma's Hall.
Lion Dog 23: Travel far east from the Gojo Street – East Spirit Mirror and search the hut.
Lion Dog 24: Head west from the Gojo Street – West Spirit Mirror.
Lion Dog 25: Travel to southern Kyoto and search just west of the bamboo forest.
Lion Dog 26: Search near the bamboo forest in southern Kyoto.
Lion Dog 27: Return to Emma's Hall and check the back area.
Lion Dog 28: Head southwest from the Kiyomizu-zaka Slope Spirit Mirror toward the farm.
Lion Dog 29: Travel west from the Gojo Street – West Spirit Mirror to the bridge where you fight Benkei. The Lion Dog is at its base.
Lion Dog 30: Head south from the Sandbar – Near Stage Spirit Mirror and search the dock.
Lion Dog 31: Travel south from the Shijo Street Spirit Mirror and enter the nearby alleyway.
Lion Dog 32: Head to the shore north of the Kamo River – East Spirit Mirror.
Lion Dog 33: Search the southwest corner of Kyoto.
Lion Dog 34: Travel south from the Yasaka Shrine Spirit Mirror and search the farm.
Lion Dog 35: Head northeast from the Yasaka Pagoda Spirit Mirror and look behind the shack.
Lion Dog 36: Search the alley south of the Yasaka Pagoda Spirit Mirror for the final Lion Dog.

What Do You Get for Finding All Lion Dogs?

Rescuing Lion Dogs allows you to unlock different sword appearances as you progress through the collection. Finding all 36 completes the collection and unlocks the For the Love of Dog trophy or achievement.

Are Lion Dogs Missable?

Lion Dogs can be collected during free exploration before the final mission, The Clash at Rendaino. The game lets you keep exploring and collecting before the point of no return, so it's worth finishing the collection before starting the finale.
