Outpost Delta Play NYC Hands-On Preview
Outpost Delta provides enough reasons for fans of Nintendo's incredibly popular Metroid franchise to take notice.

Outpost Delta reignited those feelings of playing Metroid Fusion back on the Gameboy Advance. Having the player shoot and collect items to progress further into the labyrinth-like facility. With the biggest advantage being your ability to manipulate gravity.
This is a 2D side-scrolling sci-fi shooter. You take control of a soldier aided by an AI called Joule to fight off the alien race called the Klaah who've taken over an outpost. Shooting, jumping, and aiming is well-done. The player is giving ample control over their movement and where to shoot. With the overall controls being simple to grasp. All while gathering new weapons and powerups in true Metroidvania fashion.
The biggest advantage you have against the Klaah is your ability to manipulate gravity. The demo didn't give enough opportunities to use the power but you can reduce, increase, reverse, or completely eliminate gravitation forces. Highlighting in the beginning how you can use this ability to navigate the environment by leaping large distances.
Enemies are numerous and diverse. With a combination of both cannon fodder blobs and armed aliens.
An issue I did encounter was in the visual design. During specific points, I had to crouch to bypass a barrier. But was unable to determine the gray block in the foreground from the background. Assuming that both were linked until a guide told me what to do. This was a small complaint but I noticed other gamers having a similar issue.
Outpost Delta is shaping up to becoming a Metroidvania title. It has a lot of promise in its design and gameplay. Outpost Delta provides enough reasons for fans of Nintendo's incredibly popular Metroid franchise to take notice.
