Retroactivity #6 - MEGA MAN X

In a time where the classic Mega Man series was still in the production with games released every now and then, Capcom has taken an attitude that would work but end up in the wrong directionif not done correctly: create a new series using the name Mega Man (classic and new) both in the same world, but would have a diferent time separating them. Thus was born the first game of this new series, which received the name of Mega Man X.

Initially the designer Keiji Inafune wanted to put the red robot  as the main protagonist of the new Zero series, but Capcom, fearing that fans would complain to put a character so different from the original Mega Man, eventually persuading him to change the concept of the protagonist, creating something that resembled more like the first Mega Man, emerging as the character "X", with zero being kept in the game, as a sort of "master" the main character. To the surprise, Zero has become very popular among fans, which caused the company to create this series who received the name of Mega Man Zero.

Now turning to Mega Man X, the game would have to show more exciting and diversity than more recent games of the classic franchise, as many fans complained about the same that prevailed in those games. It was necessary to innovate, but without losing the characteristics that made Mega Man world famous. The presence of the producer and designer Tokura Fujiwara Keiji Inafune was a guarantee that the characteristics of classic games would not be left out. But they would be able to actually create an innovative Mega Man? Fortunately they managed to do the trick!

The game is set in the year 21XX. Dr. Cain, a famous archaeologist that was participating in an excavation in search of the fossil of a plant, found a robot named Mega Man X in a capsule. Mega Man X (also called simply the''X'' ) had the power to make their own decisions, which surprised Cain, who then decides to start a study on X. Over time, Cain managed to make their own robots, based on the design of X, called Reploids. But somehow, many of Reploids created by Cain began to attack humans. These were called Mavericks Reploids. This was created with the Mavericks Hunters, a group of Reploids, which should  combat the rebels. Sigma, a reploid of very large capacity, was chosen to be the leader of the Maverick Hunters. He was a born leader, and brought great victories for the side of the Reploids. But from a certain event, Sigma began behaving strangely. Sigma, judging reploids as superior to humans, decides to attack the human race with a vengeance! The last hope for human salvation now lies in two Mavericks Hunters: the mysterious Zero and "X".

Mega Man X brings beautiful graphics, with futuristic scenarios full of detail and well diversified from each other. The design of the characters and enemies that populate the game could not be better, showing once again the great talent of Keiji Inafune. The sound effects are all very well done, bringing very cool sounds and totally in keeping with the mood of the game. The lack of a single annoying sound effect throughout the game, is something worthy of applause to the team's game. The music of Mega Man X is excellent! The classic series had already shown great compositions, but it seems that Capcom wanted to further increase the level of the series. With a true team of five composers, Mega Man X has a soundtrack quite inspired, full of memorable themes, those that stick in your mind and not leaving ever again! Enough to be difficult to highlight one issue among many high-level that the game has. Mega Man X is one of those games that deserve to be played at a loud volume ... for fear of the neighbors!

The gameplay is very good, with all commands responding without delay. The directional button moves the perfect way and all control buttons except the X button, have their functions: the A button to run the Dash (after getting the boots of the armor robotics) and confirms the selections in menu screen, the B button performs a jump and clears the selections in the menu screen, the Y button allows you to use X-Buster or a weapon that the player selected, and the L and R buttons are used to select the weapons that are won when they beat the bosses. The Start button to pause the game beyond the screen brings up a menu with several options.Mega Man X does not bring the same level of difficulty of the game in the classic series, but is far from an easy game. Many stages are filled with traps and enemies often complicated to overcome. About the enemies, all have their weaknesses and the best way to defeat them is to make the use of weapons that cause more damage on each. If the player manages to get the Hadouken, pass through the "replay" of leaders that occurs in the final stages more easily, since a direct hit will suffice to turn heads in piles of junk!

Mega Man X could fulfill its mission merits: a revamped schedule that was already becoming repetitive and initiated a more successful franchise from Capcom. Managed to please almost every fan of the classic series while it brought new followers. In 1995 it was released a version of the game for the IBM PC, but that ended up being lower if compared with the version of the Super NES. Already during the years 2005/2006 was released a remake of Mega Man X for the PlayStation Portable, which received the title of Mega Man Maverick Hunter X, bringing some changes and innovations as remade in 3D graphics but retaining the original gameplay; remixed music, the ability to control the character Vile after beating the game, and adding several videos. Although the remake, the nostalgic on duty certainly prefer the original game, and many consider Mega Man X as one of the best games released in the 4th generation of consoles. Nothing more than fitting for a fun and addictive game like Mega Man X!
