Reviews and Facts

Other by FetusZero on  Dec 01, 2009

This blog is merely to explain what I am planning in a near future on this community, along with some little facts about myself so people know a bit more about my gamer side. I'll think about making some facts for other entertainment methods such as music, movies, or even random facts about myself in the future. This will be a big rant on the subject, so grab a coffee and make yourself comfortable if you plan on reading this. As my first words though: Thanks to everyone for the warm welcomes, spotlights, and everything else you are doing on this site. :]

As Ron itself already know (and is he craving it, I can feel it!), I used to write reviews on the now famous site GameSpot. With time though, the site has changed, people have left, and I stopped writing such reviews. A shame, really, as I had earned one of the most sought after emblems out there: Top 1000 reviewers, which is awarded to users who have stopped updating their reviews, but had left a critical (as in criticism) mark of quality.

My last review dates all the way back to 2008, with the game Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Edition, which, if I remember well, was my longest and most detailed review to date. I had been working on a come back though, with a review of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Where did that went? As a first fact about myself, I strongly dislike Online Multiplayer, which leads to the last section of the game I have never tried. My account is set up entirely, along with a complete character built up and ready for what we can consider the "social" aspect of video gaming, but it never came to life. This is, by far, the longest and best review I have ever written I suppose, but it never came to life due to a mode I never played and many other reasons. It may include how the majority of people left the site, and how the site has become home to.. strange people. The game has often been claimed to be perfect, receiving 10's on 10's practically everywhere, and I was going to soil the ground with a lower score than this. I loved every single part of this game, but the matter of fact is that a perfect game does not exist, each of them have flaws and I've, strangely, never seen any of those perfect score reviews even pronounce the word "Online" in their writings, although it is part of the game and should contribute to the final result. A perfect would sure please every living and dead human on the planet, which is literally impossible, and we know that MG Online wasn't praised as much as the single player experience delivered by MGS4.

Now, you know why I have stopped writing reviews. I intend on starting these again, but this time for a site with more potential, especially regarding the users. People seem to have a critical eye here, one that is joined with respect and politeness. I could, however, make it simple and upload these old reviews on here since I have kept every single .ODT (I use OpenOffice) for each of the reviews I have written, but that would be kind of cheap, wouldn't it? That's why I will start a fresh new one. A little heads up there, the game in question will be F.E.A.R. for the X360. It sure isn't a new game, but it is a recent one that I have finished and went through several times in a row. It turned out to be one of my favorite games in the First Person Shooter genre, so I thought it would make a great subject for returning to my roots as a "reviewer", if I can say. I hardly ever write about new games apart from a few rants, since I like (obviously) to complete them at 100% before reviewing them and as with most people, I need to work, eat and drink to survive. It does not giving me the time I wish I had to complete them quickly, especially new games as I still have bills to pay, not allowing me to buy as much of the new games as I'd like. I can't say for sure when my first review will be up, but it will be eventually. Then maybe one day I'll jump back on my MGS4 sheet and finish writing it. Don't expect anything wonderful though, I'm kind of rusty on the matter ;p

That pretty much sums it up for my plans, in a rather.. elaborate way. As for some small facts about myself and video games:

- I work as a Compliance QA Tester for a professional (that's what they say ;p) QA company.

- My favorite series of all time is Megaman classic, Megaman X, Megaman Zero, Megaman ZX and Megaman Legends. Basically, every Megaman series excluding Megaman Battle Network/Starforce.

- I'd go and say my second favorite series is the Touhou Project. These are danmaku (bullet hell, vertical scrolling shooter, arcade shooter, etc) for the PC. It is entirely in Japanese, but luckily for me, it's huge fanbase makes it so we have fan-made English patches very quickly. It is also the only games I thoroughly play on PC, put aside some arcade, independent games I get on Steam (such as Aquaria, Machinarium, etc.).

- I enjoy every type of genres except for RPGs. I used to like them very much, but due to how time consuming they have become I started to dislike them. I rather have an 8 hours long game and play through it several times than a 50 hours long one.

- As previously mentioned, the shorter the better. Many more playthroughs, meaning it's worth my money to my eyes, where long games are played only once, making it a waste to me.

- I own both a PS3 and a X360 as home systems, for portable I own both the PSP and DS, so I can hardly become a nuissance as far as console wars go.

I could probably name more, but then it would be an even bigger blog. I need to restrain myself.
