The Similarities Between GTA 6 and RDR 2 You Didn't Know Of

From NPC interactions to dynamic weather, GTA 6 is borrowing the best of Red Dead Redemption 2.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 first came out, it wasn't just a game; it was a gaming revolution, simply put. Every little thing you did in that world felt like it mattered, even if, in reality, it didn't. Rockstar created this incredible illusion of consequence. And even now, in 2025, people still compare other open-world games to it because it set a standard that feels almost impossible to match.

From its deep NPC interactions to its intricate honor system, Red Dead Redemption 2 was a masterpiece of game design. But that was seven years ago, and now we're on the cusp of GTA 6. It seems like Rockstar is going to bring everything we liked about RDR 2 into GTA, based on leaks, alpha video, and early details.

First, let's discuss how NPCs interact with each other. The meet-and-antagonize system was one of the best features of Red Dead Redemption 2. You could chat to any NPC and connect with them in ways that seemed natural, like talking to a friend. The NPCs would respond in real time when you politely greeted someone, escalated a dispute, or defused a tense situation.

It was incredible and made walking around the world feel alive. You could say, "How's it going?" or also insult someone. It had realism that most Rockstar games didn't have before, except for Bully.

So that brings us to the good news: the leaks indicate that this feature is returning in GTA 6.

NPCs will react when you aim at them, and you'll have a full suite of interaction options to either be friendly, hostile, or neutral. For anyone who loved messing around with NPCs in Red Dead, this is going to feel equally fun, or maybe better.

Then there's the honor system. Your choices in Red Dead Redemption 2 affect Arthur's honor meter, which might potentially change how the tale ends. This idea is turning into a relationship meter in GTA 6. Instead of keeping track of Jason and Lucia's relationship based on conventional morals, it will keep track of how strong their connection is dependent on what players choose.

This change seems smart because it removes the sometimes rigid moral judgments of the old system while still giving you meaningful consequences. The relationship meter is also expected to affect GTA 6's ending, and leaks suggest there could be three or four possible endings.

Combat is another area where GTA 6 is taking cues from Red Dead Redemption 2.

In RDR2, the Dead Eye system was incredibly satisfying; it allowed you to slow time and almost made you feel like Dr. Strange using the Time Stone. GTA 5 had a version of Dead Eye, too, but it was quite "dead".

For GTA 6, leaks suggest Jason will have a Dead Eye-style mechanic that functions much like it did in Red Dead, slowing time and showing weak target spots. Lucia will also have a similar ability, though limited to a single shot. She may also be a better driver, like Franklin's special abilities in GTA 5.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, when you did something shady, little eyeballs would appear on your HUD, signaling that an NPC was running off to alert authorities. You could track them down and stop them. In GTA 6, the system is expected to go further, incorporating clothing, security cameras, etc.

You'll have to plan heists carefully (like the one at the Louvre), avoid CCTV detection, and consider your attire to avoid recognition. Witnesses can call the police, record you for social media, and make you go viral, perhaps. Leaks also suggest that crime scenes can persist after you leave, meaning you could return later to see how your actions played out.

Another feature fans of Red Dead will love is the limited weapon carry system. In GTA 6, players are expected to carry only two rifles and two pistols at once, with other weapons stored in vehicles. Your car will act like a horse from Red Dead, serving as a mobile hub where you can store items and gear.

GTA 6's world systems are also taking immersion to new heights. Dynamic weather is expected to play a major role, including storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding. It's Florida after all, which the game is based on, so it makes sense. Environmental interactions will affect gameplay, from slick roads that make chases riskier to mud and water that affect movement.

Gore and dismemberment are reportedly back as well, though likely toned down compared to RDR 2 due to modern-day wokeism. However, it's expected to be the most detailed depiction of combat injuries and blood effects in a GTA game yet.

Leaks also suggest GTA 6 will adopt a chapter-based narrative, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, with five distinct chapters.

This structure allows the world to change over time, including the construction of new buildings and the evolution of locations as the story progresses. Coupled with dynamic weather and NPC routines, this chapter system could make the game world feel like it is genuinely growing around you rather than doing the same thing over and over.

Hunting and wildlife will return, vastly improved from GTA 5. The game will feature realistic animal AI and challenging hunting mechanics. Leaks suggest expanded hunting options, including modern tools and traps. You may also be able to trade animal products, like leather and other goods.

Advanced AI is another huge step forward for GTA 6. NPCs are going to have realistic schedules, work jobs, and maintain relationships—you know the drill. Shopkeepers, for example, will respond differently depending on how you approach them, and robberies will be possible.

Navigation systems and decision-making neural networks are reportedly in place, making NPCs more lifelike than ever. This feature, based on patent analyses and alpha footage, is one of the most confirmed aspects of the game.

Also, Euphoria physics, which were already incredible in Red Dead Redemption 2, are returning in GTA 6. This will make characters respond more realistically and make the setting seem more genuine. Alpha film reveals how people react to falls and collisions, promising a city that seems real and where every interaction has value.

Round tables and creator collaborations are exploring leaks and alpha footage, bringing together top GTA-focused YouTubers and bloggers under one umbrella to share our collective thoughts. These discussions show just how much excitement there is for this next chapter in Rockstar's flagship series.

GTA 6 is shaping up to be an evolution of everything that made Red Dead Redemption 2 so good. All contribute to a game that encourages thoughtful engagement rather than simply button-mashing your way through missions. The chapter-based narrative and evolving world suggest that Rockstar is aiming for a living, breathing Vice City.

After seven years of waiting, Rockstar is about to deliver an open-world experience that could make Red Dead Redemption 2 feel like just the warm-up act.
