Kazuya Mishima has just lightning godfisted Ryu into the air, sprouted wings and cauterised him with a demonic eye-beam. But this isn't a glossy CG intro; this is round two of Street Fighter X Tekken, and those endless player Fisto, God of Punching Games may have been answered.

For Namco fans searching out their favourite characters, there's a strong chance they're on their way. Expect a good crowded dojo of fighters. Producer Yoshinori Ono has confirmed as much. Tekken characters include Kazuya, Nina Williams, and bacon-loving Bob. Jaguar-masked luchador Kind and his former rival Marduk are both in, the latter looking particularly effective thanks to some close-quarter tackles that drag and opponent to the ground for a full-fat helping of fist. Impressively, the less flamboyant moves of the Tekken characters are beginning to sparkle under the excitable hand of Ono. For example, Nina Williams can still challenge projectile-capable fighters like Ryu and Ken with her grounded Aikido moves. Let's see you rock a Hadoken with both wrists snapped, boys. It's hard to tell at this stage whether this'll be enough to convert the Tekken hardcore to the linear defensive style of Capcom. Although the controls can be switched to the four-button Tekken layout, the game is clearly an update of the SFIV mechanics. Nethertheless, anyone familiar with the Tekken combos won't be completely lost; Kazuya's simple combos are executed in the same way as in Tekken - even using the six button SFlayout. Tagging your partner can be used tactically to chain combos, as can the new launcher that can bosh enemies into the air. Both are deliciously tactical addition to the classic mechanic, but it's merely a glancing blow in terms of what the finished product with be capable of. Whether you're a veteran of the Iron Fist or a budding World Warrior, Street Fighter X Tekken looks certain to have a fist with your name on it.
