Subject Delta & Big Sister
Other by FetusZero on Mar 28, 2010
Today I went to Mont-Tremblant, a place about 45 minutes away from my home where the biggest attractions are the mountains for skiing or snowboarding. The place also packs quite a lot of restaurants and stores of variety. It wasn't the first time I went there, but more like the second. On my first trip, a specific store caught my attention: Acme. Yep, just like in Bugs Bunny and such shows that were with us in our younger days, it is called Acme. Rest assured that they do not sell TNT or other items aimed at destroying our fellow Road Runner, but more action figures and toys taken from certain animes (such as Naruto, which I greatly dislike personally) or Hello Kitty stuff (my sister went crazy). One specific figure is the reason I returned there a second time when my parents asked us if we wanted to go along: Protoman. Last time I went, I had bought this pretty keychain made out of Bender from Futurama, who has since been with my car keys. It surely isn't the safest person to whom you would give the task of keeping the car keys, but I love Bender. Upon purchasing it, and after paying, I noticed that Protoman figure. As I stared to it with glistening eyes, I left. Upon returning today, I see Protoman still lives! But is sadly not for sale. The thing is the owner of the store keeps a copy of the old figures that used to be sold back in the days and she have been keeping this Protoman on the shelf for around 10 years, or so she says.
Nonetheless, I came back with some new friends. Ever since receiving that Dante's Inferno figure, I've been wanting more of them. Not only that, but the fact that I deeply want those 20cm high Touhou Project figures only adds to my recent and current obsession of owning figures for the sole purpose of owning something physical from something I love. One day, I'll get you, Remilia, I promise I'll get you (Remilia Scarlet is the final boss in TH6: The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, she is my favorite Touhou character out there for undisclosed reasons at this moment). Back to the new friends, I present to you Subject Delta and Big Sister from Bioshock 2:
Big Sister on the left and Subject Delta on the right.
If any of you have played Bioshock 2, you will know that Subject Delta is actually the character you represent within the game and that Big Sisters are something to avoid, though they are unavoidable if you plan on gathering ADAM.
Big Sister
Big Sisters are your most fearsome enemies. They are post-pubescent Little Sisters that have become unstable in Rapture's environment. They were charged with the task of maintaining the balance in Rapture, equipped with a cage that is meant to carry Little Sisters around while keeping them safe. You can see the doodles drawn by the Little Sisters on the oxygen tank on her back, and the cage has some pink ribbons attached to it. In the game, they will appear after every 2-3 Little Sisters that you rescue or harvest and will fight you in order to maintain balance. They can use deadly plasmids, such as telekinesis, allowing them to throw your own plasmids back at you. For the unaware, take plasmids as what would be called "magic spells" in other games. You can throw fire balls, electricity, move and throw with telekinesis, etc. They are extremely fast and agile, will jump everywhere and their scream is ear piercing. You definitely know when one is coming for you and surprisingly enough, they never bring a good feeling along side for you.
Subject Delta
Subject Delta is a Big Daddy prototype and is the character you control over the course of the game. Unlike the Big Daddies, Delta only has one Little Sister whom he will protect with his life, rather than protecting all of them. Despite being built with only one sister in mind, you can still adopt the occasional sisters you encounter and lead them to ADAM sources which they will extract from dead splicers. Upon returning them to a vent, they will give you a part of the adam they have collected. Of course, if you decide to harvest the Little Sister instead, you will be granted with more ADAM, though you will also kill the small, helpless and overly cute child. In the game, Delta is on the research of his original Little Sister whom he was "assigned" to back in the days through undisclosed means due to spoilers in the storyline that I will not reveal.
Big Sister and Subject Delta "dancing" around Dante.
Dante now has two new friends to accompany him on my shelf next to my HDTV. Strangely enough though, they were seperated and Dante is now sitting alone on the left shelf, while the others are on the right with Pandora's Box. Looking at the picture, I wonder why Dante ran on the other side..
I am now craving for a Little Sister figure, as well as the Bouncer and Rosie Big Daddies, and while being at it, a Splicer figure to complete the collection. Unfortunately, they only had the two that I got this morning at the store and every single online store I checked doesn't list them (even the official NECA website). I found a site where they had the Bouncer, but it is currently out of stock. The one I truly want though is the Little Sister, they're so cute. So if anyone notices one from a reliable online retailer, let me know. Thank you :] Oh and sorry for the dirt on my desk, it's actually ashes.
