Welcome everyone to the 3rd edition of my Sunday films blog :) This Sunday my recommendation is "The Rock" a purely action film starring Sean Connery, Nicolas Cage and Ed Harris, produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, producers of Top Gun and Crimson Tide.

The city ? San Francisco. The setting ? Alcatraz prison.

An honourable General, a man who had fought in great battles in the past such as the Gulf War, Vietnam and China, General Hummel (Ed Harris) and his team of U.S. marines, take over Alcatraz prison along with 81 hostages, threatening to launch an attack on San Francisco Bay. Did I forget to mention he has 15 rockets of VX gas with him ? Their motive sounds quite reasonable to me, but not for all of them.

This is where Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) enters the pitch, the best biochemist that FBI has at its disposal. Can he do it alone ? No way. John Mason (Sean Connery), a former "resident" of Alcatraz, the only one who escaped that prison back in 1963 knows the way to taking them in. But John Mason isn't just an ordinary man. It's not gonna be easy task, I can assure you for that.

"The Rock" was released back in 1996, being the 7th highest grossing film in USA that year and the 4th worldwide.

I swear to you, I've watched this film more than 20 times, but every time I see new things in it. The opening scene with Ed Harris going to the graveyard under heavy rain makes me drool even typing about it. You know what's strange? If I was in a similar situation, I might have done the same, or at least seriously consider it...

Quote of the film : Your best? Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and **** the prom queen!
