Tales of Arise Guide | How to Beat Menancia Guard Captain Kisara

Here's a guide on how to beat the Menancia Guard Captain Kisara in Tales of Arise

As you proceed further into the heart of Elde Menancia, you will eventually come to the grand capital of Viscint. The region might at first seem a peaceful haven for Renans and Dahnas living together but a deep political conspiracy leads to a dramatic confrontation. Kisara, the distinguished Captain of the Gold Dust Guards, is standing in your way.

Kisara fights with a noble, defensive philosophy, unlike the monstrous zeugles or corrupt lords you have faced. She doesn’t win her battles with quick teleports or grandiose magical incantations. Instead, she uses a massive tower shield, cumbersome physical armor and punishing mace attacks to completely disrupt your party's offensive rhythm.

This encounter is a major tactical turning point in the middle chapters of the game. It’s supposed to be a real test of your patience, your spacing, and your ability to punch through a heavily fortified defense. If Alphen tries to use force to overcome Kisara, all he will achieve is getting slammed down on the stone floor again and again. This guide will detail the precise strategies and loadouts required to break her iron defense.

Necessary Setups and Gear Optimization

If you walk out on the training grounds or palace courtyards and challenge the Guard Captain without checking your equipment, you’ll get your butt kicked faster than you can say, “I should’ve checked my equipment.” Before this fight, make sure to visit the local blacksmith in Viscint and upgrade your active party’s loadout to the max.

It is absolutely necessary to make sure Alphen is using his best forged sword at the time in order to make a dent in Kisara’s heavy physical armor. To engage in this fierce duel, you'll need Alphen, Shionne, Rinwell, and Law in your active four-person party.

Kisara is all about pure earth-elemental power and high-impact physical strikes, so you want to go with defensive accessories. So you want Protect Rings or other Earth-resistance accessories on your frontline fighters, as they will greatly reduce the damage from her heavy mace attacks.

You also need to replenish your inventory with medical supplies before you take her on. Use your hard-earned Gald to buy a healthy max supply of Apple Gels and Orange Gels to keep your health and shared Cure Points pool perfectly stable throughout the long skirmish. It's also an important insurance policy to keep a few Life Bottles on hand in case a character gets caught in one of her heavy rushing combinations.

Preparing the Party AI for Defensive Victory

Kisara’s devastating counter-attacks can easily turn the tide of battle, so it’s paramount to set up your AI companions’ behavior to stay in control. For this duel, you want to take control of Alphen yourself and use his heavy sword attacks to catch her attention right away.

Before you speak to the boss, hit pause and open the Strategy menu to change your team's tactical logic. Shionne has to be explicitly told to work as your personal main lifesaver. Make her focus on healing and resurrection. She should be set to use first aid instantly when any character's health bar goes below a certain safe level .

Rinwell needs to be told to stay at the outer ring at maximum range, spamming her long-range elemental spells to chip away safely from a distance. Law should be built to be an aggressive, shield-breaking physical attacker who tries to keep constant pressure with Alphen. If you keep your support line safely spread out, you minimize the risk of the whole team getting caught in one big shield bash.

Passing Phase One and the Tower Shield

As soon as the battle actually starts, Kisara will be in a very defensive stance, putting her huge tower shield in front of her body. While actively blocking, she gains total hyper-armor, taking virtually no damage from any and all standard physical and magical attacks.

Her main individual weapons are heavy forward shield thrust attacks, wide sweeping mace strikes, and a sudden overhead slam that can instantly break Alphen's guard. You have to fight the urge to just run up and mash your standard combo strings against her shield to survive the opening minutes of this fight.

Instead, take a very patient defensive posture and watch her body movements closely. If you see Kisara back up her mace or raise her shield, she's about to hit hard with something physical. You need to activate your dodge roll at just the right moment to get a Perfect Evade, which briefly slows down the action around you. Follow this up with a Counter Edge strike to deal guaranteed critical damage directly to her exposed flank.

Following Heavy Strike With Openings

Kisara’s defensive capabilities are incredibly formidable, but her heavy equipment naturally leaves her wide open to severe punishment if you manage your timing correctly. Every time she performs a heavy mace swing and a long rush attack, she'll have a short recovery animation due to the weight of her armor.

These down periods that last a fraction of a second are your ultimate cue to go heavy on the offense. Alphen's forward-lunging artes let you close the distance fast, and you can release short, controlled combo strings to chip away at her posture. But never indulge in the temptation of overstaying your welcome.

If you keep swinging your sword for too long, Kisara is going to recover instantly and raise her tower shield to counter-attack with a brutal shield slam at point-blank range. The safest way is to do three or four quick strikes, use a high-impact arte on her, and back away immediately to continue your defensive movement. If you keep repeating this disciplined cycle, you are always ready to dodge when she decides to make her next offensive push.

Law’s Shield Unleashed Break Boost Attack

As you keep trading blows with the Guard Captain, your party member Boost Gauges will slowly fill up to a bright blue glow. Managing these companion assists is the absolute key to breaking through Kisara’s heavy guard and forcing open generous damage windows.

Law’s special Boost Attack is your most important tool in this particular battle. His fast armored fist hits are specifically designed to break down the hard shells, heavy armor and physical guards of the tough foes. When you see Kisara slam her tower shield into the ground, completely blocking your incoming attacks, activate Law's Boost Attack right away.

His striking combo blows her guard away and shatters her defensive stance, putting her into an immediate Core Break state. This makes the captain lose her balance and slump helplessly to the ground, completely paralyzed for a long time. She is completely down. Just have Alphen use his most powerful Flaming Edge techniques and burn through her health pool completely uncontested.

Surviving the Phase Two Charging Storm

And if you can bring Kisara’s health pool down to the halfway mark, her fighting style will become way more aggressive. She will growl determinedly and encase herself in a blazing blue aura, indicating that she has officially entered her Over Limit state.

In this messy second half of the fight, her physical stats get a huge boost, and she’ll start using high-speed charging attacks aggressively. She is going to plant her shield forward and run all the way across the arena, like a runaway freight train, crushing anything standing directly in her path. Trying to trade blows with her or interrupt her movement during this state is a very risky gamble that will very quickly lead to an immediate KO.

As soon as you see her go into Over Limit, you need to immediately drop all offensive thoughts and become a 100% defensive playstyle. Just focus on sprinting in broad, flowing circles around the perimeter of the arena, well-timed dodge rolls to slip past her charging paths. Pay close attention to the shared pool of Cure Points and manually use an item from your menu if Shionne needs immediate help to keep the team stable until the aura naturally dissipates.

Launching the Last Attack

Once the savage Over Limit barrage is through and Kisara can rest for a while to regain stamina, she'll be worn out and extremely vulnerable to your final attack. This is your last chance to take advantage of her weariness and win the hard-earned victory.

Time Alphen’s fiery sword strikes with whatever companion Boost Gauges you have left to lock the captain into an endless, unbreakable stagger loop. And as your whole party continues to dump damage into her vulnerable body, the blue crosshair diamond floating right over the boss will quickly max out.

When you see the Strike indicator start to flash manically on your screen, press the corresponding directional pad prompt to perform a cinematic team-up finishing move. This amazing final strike will disarm the captain permanently, officially ending the duel and gaining her great respect.

Kisara is a huge milestone, as overcoming her tests your ability to punch through heavy physical defenses and maintain strict discipline. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, the noble Guard Captain will be officially added to your active roster, adding her unbreakable shield and defensive prowess to your cause.
