Your struggle against the Renan lords is growing, and the underground waterways and cavernous passages of Cyslodia will compel your party to face some of nature's most grotesque mutations. Eventually you will find yourself in the dank, dark depths of the Underground Waterway. Here a massive gelatinous apex predator known as the Ooze Hive lurks.

This boss battle throws a whole new level of chaos onto the battlefield, compared to the single human duels or quick predators you’ve faced before. The Ooze Hive is a huge, central mass that cannot move. It will overwhelm your party with sheer numbers, toxic status effects and deadly ground hazards to completely limit your party’s movement.

It is literally a breeding ground, constantly spawning smaller highly annoying minions to do its bidding while it attacks you from afar. This guide will cover what you’ll need to prepare, what character roles work best, and the precise tactics you’ll need to employ in order to break down this liquid terror and purge the under-channels.

Optimizing Your Gear & Preparing Yourself is Key

That’s a quick party-wipe recipe for charging blindly into a dank, toxic cave without checking your equipment loadout. Be sure to visit a local merchant or blacksmith and upgrade your equipment tier before jumping into the flooded nest of the Ooze Hive.

You want to be sure that Alphen has his best forged sword ready to go, because you’ll need to cut through the thick, rubbery membrane of the central boss. Alphen, Shionne, Rinwell and Law should be your active foursome fighting force for this long endurance match.

Your defensive accessories are very important here, because this particular boss is very reliant on water-elemental magic and inflicts the very debilitating Poison status ailment. Give your frontline melee fighters any accessories that reduce water damage or provide poison resistance and you’ll save your party a ton of headaches.

Make sure your inventory is heavily stocked with essential medical supplies, spending your hard-earned Gald on plenty of Antidotes to instantly cure poison. Buy a good maximum stash of Apple Gels for flat health point recovery, and plenty of Orange Gels to keep topped up your shared Cure Points pool during the extended skirmish.

Defensive Victory: Preparing the party AI

The Ooze Hive can cover the entire arena in toxic puddles as well as aggressive minions, so configuring your AI companions’ behavior is crucial to staying on top. In this boss fight, you want to control Alphen directly and use his heavy close-range sword strikes to deal high burst damage to the core target.

Pause the game and go to the Strategy menu to reprogram your team’s tactical logic before diving into the water arena. Shionne must be strictly ordered to become your devoted primary lifesaver.

Set her parameters to 100% healing and status recovery so that the exact millisecond a character loses health or gets poisoned, she casts First Aid or uses an item. Rinwell should be told to stay as far out as possible around the perimeter, constantly firing off her long-range wind and light spells to exploit elemental weaknesses.

Law should be set to be an aggressive, shield-breaking physical attacker who targets people alongside Alphen. Keeping your supportive backline safely spread out reduces the chances of your entire team getting caught up in a single, sweeping toxic blast, and lets you fight comfortably at close quarters.

Minion Swarm Walkthrough and Phase One

The battle officially begins and you notice that the Ooze Hive itself is still mostly rooted to the center of the arena. Its main individual weapons are slow sweeping spins where it slams its gigantic gelatinous tentacles on the ground and sprays long-range toxic water at your characters.

In order to get through the first few minutes, you need to resist the urge to blindly run up and mash your standard attack buttons against the central mass. The boss has a ton of natural hyper-armor so your regular sword hits won't stagger it when it's fully up and running.

Also, Ooze Hive will immediately release a large wave of smaller slime minions called Ooze Nakis to surround your party. Ignoring these smaller adds is a critical mistake and will quickly lead to your spellcasters being completely interrupted and overwhelmed in the corners.

Turn your direct offensive attention away from the main hive mass for the moment, and use Alphen’s wide-sweeping sword artes to quickly round up and slice through the smaller slimes. Individually, these inferior enemies have fairly small health pools, so if you can chain your standard strikes effectively, you can take them down quickly.

Releasing Strategic Boost Attacks

Constantly clearing out the smaller slime minions will quickly fill your party members’ Boost Gauges to a bright blue glow. Properly managing these companion assists is the absolute key to breaking through the heavy defenses of the Ooze Hive.

Law’s unique Boost Attack comes in handy during this particular fight, as his armored-fist strikes are designed to break through the hard shells and thick physical guards of tough enemies. If the hive core is exposed or defenses are hardened, bring in Law for a punishing attack.

Rinwell’s Boost Attack also plays a very important role in the first half of the fight. The Ooze Hive will occasionally try to cast powerful water spells, with glowing purple casting circles appearing in the water beneath its tentacles.

As soon as you see this magical charging animation start, use Rinwell’s boost assist to instantly steal the boss’s astral energy. If you successfully disrupt its chant, the incoming elemental hazard will be completely nullified and will trigger a severe Core Break state, causing the massive slime mass to slump helplessly onto the cavern floor for a generous window of time.

Whenever you successfully trigger a Core Break by interrupting a spell or using the right Boost Attack, the Ooze Hive will totally lose its hyper-armor and remain paralyzed on the ground. Now is your chance to go on the offensive, and throw down your most resource-intensive combinations.

Tell Alphen to close the gap quickly, and use his best Flaming Edge techniques, sacrificing small bits of his own health to do a ton of fire damage on the weak core. This small window of time you can safely loop your strongest physical artes without the boss doing anything back.

But you always have to keep a sharp sense of awareness and avoid the temptation of overstretching your combo strings for too long. When the Ooze Hive begins to slowly lift its mass off the ground, its natural hyper-armor will immediately come back on.

If you are careless enough to swing your sword during this recovery animation, the boss will instantly punish you with a point-blank radial fluid blast that deals heavy damage and instant poison. Get your high-impact damage in during the downtime, and get out of there to a safe distance the second it starts to stir.

Facing the Phase Two Melting Storm

When you finally reduce the Ooze Hive’s central health pool past its halfway point, the boss will enter a violent, screeching hyper-aggressive state. Often it will cloak itself in a blazing aura, signaling its official transition into its Over Limit phase.

In this hectic second half of the fight, the boss's casting times are greatly reduced, and it will start aggressively melting its own body into the floor to travel across the arena. It can dive underwater in an instant and emerge right under your active character, sending up a large geyser that can easily knock Alphen unconscious in one hit.

When you see the boss submerge or flash with its Over Limit aura, you must stop all offensive thoughts and go into a fully defensive playstyle immediately. Just keep running in big, looping circles around the very edges of the flooded cavern, dodging-rolling at the right time to avoid the water spouts as they erupt.

Keep an eye on your shared Cure Points pool very closely, and if Shionne runs out of magical energy, pause the game and give her an Orange Gel from your inventory to keep the team stable. Just focus on living, clear out any newly spawned minions on the run, and wait until the boss's hyper-active state ends naturally.

The Final Blow

Once the exhausting Over Limit phase is complete, and the Ooze Hive returns to its normal stationary state, it will be exhausted and open to your final attack. This is your last chance to take advantage of his weariness and win the victory.

Use Sync Alphen's flaming sword attacks with any remaining companion Boost Gauges to put the central mass in an unbreakable stagger lock. While your whole party keeps dealing damage to the isolated core, the blue crosshair diamond floating right above the boss’s body will quickly fill up to maximum capacity.

When the Strike indicator starts to flash violently across your screen, hit the corresponding directional pad prompt to execute a cinematic team-up finisher. This spectacular final blow will dissolve the Ooze Hive forever into harmless water, bringing the subterranean nightmare to an official end.

This gelatinous horror is a huge milestone for your minion management, magical disruption and environmental awareness. Now that the waterway is clear, your war-torn rebellion can finally march forth into the heart of Cyslodia’s capital, ready to tear down the last of the Renan structures of oppression.
