The Future of Gaming; The Good, Bad and Ugly
Few months ago, we have got enlightened by the fact that the Microsoft’s Project Natal and Sony’s new project would allow motion sensing capabilities in the game. Isn’t this so awesome? The whole idea will make every gamers feel that they are even closer to the game. It is a pretty neat idea, when it comes to innovation. It will be even awesome to see how people react to this sort of games. Think about FPS shooters like Unreal Tournament. In Unreal Tournament, you have to constantly dodge incoming bullets, run continuously even strafe occasionally or rotate. I don’t know how its going to work, especially during the fact when you are supposed to rotate and kill your opponents in your whereas you will not be able to watch the screen. If it works like this then I guess, people has to use their minds and perform estimation techniques about where their opponent are located. It is also pretty bad idea since it leaves out much use of the button mashing techniques that gamers are used to and still enjoys during generations. However if we make use of Project Natal as just an enhancement rather than complete change of gaming experience, it may work out even better. We keep the button mashing technique which is so prominent for gamers and use our movements for improving our gameplay, like strafing left and right while still hooking up on the screen and use buttons for firing and running. Also we can use the this concept for emulating the human reaction that gamers have when facing different situations, like rising up instantly while shooting anyone at top of you in the game. Or even emulate the reaction that gamers move their heads left and right while playing a racing game. My little cousin does that all the time. Well of course health official are going to like that, since it will use up your energy while playing games.
Another problem of Project Natal is that you limited space to use your movement. If you really want to have that much of space, then you surely need to have Virtual reality instead which is even worse for gamers. I can clearly picture the scenarios in the movie Matrix or even the cartoon, The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, as better example, where the characters go directly to the virtual 3D world. You never know this thing might be real and surely can affect someone’s mind, as Morpheus says; a body cannot live with its mind. You never know in future there may be huge lawsuits and cases waiting against the game companies for loss of lives. Who knows? Right now it’s just a science fiction, and this is the fact we don’t want to come to reality.
