The PC Upgrade: Two Weeks Later
Computers by The_13th on Oct 24, 2010
So with the release of the 68xx cards I've probably been asked atleast 2 or 3 times now if I wished I had held off for the cards or not. There were those who said I should have, because they were close but at the time I'd read a few reports saying it might be longer than expected.
My instant answer has been no for the most part, dont get me wrong, I'd love to get my hands on one, probably more a 6870 as opposed to the 6850 because the performance of the 6850 really isnt that much different but lets be honest here. if we always held off for the next big thing we'd never actually end up upgrading. And I'd already been waiting for something like 4-5 years. I mean I hold off for the card, then I hold off for the new Intel CPU's coming out next year, by then there are new cards coming out a month or so after that... Anyone else besodes me understand this problem?
So in short? Do I regret the upgrade, the answer is oh hell no. My PC is awesome, it was a delight to build and the performance jump not just in games (of which I havent played eough of yet) but the everyday stuff too is just leaps and bounds ahead of what I had become used to. I'd definately love to have a new card but its more likely that I'll just teak my system in 12 months or when Diablo 3 is around the corner, until then Imm going to buy a few more hard drives. Continue to toss up whether or not to grab an SSD or leave it till then. I'm considering a TV Tuner for the system.
My next purchase is going to be either a sound system or a TV so I cant sit around spending hundreds on my PC every week, its time to get saving again :)
