There's always next year

The last time a Cleveland professional sports team won a championship was in 1964 when the Cleveland Browns won the NFL Championship (pre-Super Bowl era). The Cleveland Indians last won the World Series in 1948 (the second-longest drought in MLB, after the Cubs) and the Cleveland Cavaliers have also never won an NBA championship. The city even had a short-lived NHL hockey team called The Barons, which never won a championship either. In 2007, the Cavaliers advanced to the NBA Finals in the city's first championship game since the 1997 World Series, but were swept by the San Antonio Spurs. In 2004, ESPN named Cleveland the most tortured sports city in America.
In my lifetime, I have only witnessed one of my favorite sports teams (Cavaliers, Indians, Packers, and I'll throw in the Browns and Blue Jackets the latter two who I follow less) win a championship. This was back in 1996, but hell I was only a few years old and too young to really even remember it.
Since then the Packers have had ups and downs, Indians have shown signs of hope, and well the Browns and Blue Jackets always stink. But the one team who has shown the best chances of winning it all is the Cleveland Cavaliers. Over the last few years they have been serious contenders for the NBA Finals Championship, never more so than this year.
There record for the 2008-09 season: 66-16. Best in the NBA. They swept the Pistons in round 1, then again swept the Hawks in round 2. Then when it came to round 3 they couldn't win the 7 game series Vs. the Orlando Magic. I could go on about the reasons they lost, but I'm too sad to think about it right now so I just won't mention them.
I thought this would finally be the year. I wanted to know the feeling of seeing a team I've rooted for my whole life, finally end the drought. I hate to be cliche, but at this point all I can say is there's always next year. Hopefully the Cavs can learn from this, and next year, finally, finally, bring a championship trophy home.
