'Tis the season for miracles to occur, after all.

And whoa, is this new writing template weird. Ah, well. Guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Also, sorry I haven't been around much recently. But hopefully, this blog will help shed some light on that.

So, anyway. It's a really odd blog title, considering that the holiday season was a few weeks ago, and even more odd when you consider my personal religious views. But a miracle has occured. ...Well, okay. Maybe not a miracle. But definitely an unlikelihood of miraculous... well, unlikliness. Highly unlikiely, I guess, would be the main point of what I'm trying too hard to say. That being... I actually found an anime that I like. :o

Yeah. Most people here might not know this, but I have a strict animosity towards 99% of anime. So far, I can remember 17 different animes that my older sister watched, which I also watched for a little while, none of which I liked. The only anime I liked up until recently was Trigun, which my brother and I would watch. So, with this new anime, that makes two that I like. Yeah, two out of a total 19 animes isn't exactly a stellar number. Which is why I (more or less) gave up on anime many years ago. So boy, was there some egg on my face when I saw this one. I'm talking, of course, about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Obviously, one thing I like is good characters. So, if I were to ever like an anime, it'd have to have some damn good characters. And of course, it does. The main characters, Haruhi (center) and Kyon (top-left) are two of the most amazing characters I've seen, and each are highly relatable... in their own ways. Yuki (bottom-left) and Koizumi (top-right) remind me of myself a lot; Yuki of how I used to act (repressed, silent bookworm), Koizumi of how I am now (stereotypical "nice guy" ). And Mikuru (bottom-right) is one of the funniest, most awkward characters ever.

Oh, yeah, obviously, avatar change time. It's Yuki now.

Essentially, the story follows the two main characters; Haruhi and Kyon. Kyon enters into his first day in High School, and finds himself sitting in front of a strange, eccentric, and seemingly grumpy girl. Namely, Haruhi Suzymiya. When they begin talking, Haruhi explains that she is simply bored of the world; nothing exciting happening, no interesting people (giving three examples, she's always wanted to meet aliens, time-travelers, and espers). So one day, while talking to Kyon in class, she comes up with the idea of making a school club to investigate any weird or otherwise supernatural goings-on. After usurping the Literary Club's room and only member (Yuki), kidnapping and forcing Mikuru to join her new club club, and coercing the "weird transfer student" (Koizumi) to join, Haruhi finally settles on a name for the group: the "Spreading Excitement All Over The World With Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade," or "SOS Brigade" for short. Sure enough, weird things start happening; mainly the fact that the three new members of the SOS Brigade are, in fact, the three types of people Haruhi wanted to meet; an alien, a time-traveler, and an esper (Yuki, Mikuru, and Koizumi, respectively). Coincidence? Not entirely. The main premise of the anime is that Haruhi is, more or less, a god (though she doesn't know it). Anything that she wants to happen enough will happen. She wanted to meet those three types of people, and so, there they are. Oh, and if she gets completely bored with the world, she could unknowingly destroy it and create a new one. So, Yuki, Mikuru, and Koizumi are doing what they can to prevent that from happening, and Kyon kind of just gets dragged along.

Confusing storyline aside, the show is completely hilarious, and has a reputation for being quite weird (to reflect Haruhi's personality). For example, the first season was shown out of chronological order, and in the second season, there was a series of eight episodes, all of which were almost exactly the same, only with different little details and some dialogue differences.

Well, I won't nag your head off any more about this anime. But in closing, between schoolwork (midterms coming up) and watching Haruhi, I haven't been able to be here that often, and I haven't been able to finish my overdue Top 10 Characters list.

Interestingly enough, I found this picture a few months ago, and was utterly confused:

Now I know exactly what it is. If you can't tell, look at the picture of Haruhi again. :P

So, yeah, links! Amazing song, coincidentally sung by Haruhi (ignore the bunny girl suit, it's a running joke in the show. While you're at it, ignore Yuki's robes as well), the world according to my fellow Americans (funniest part? See if you can find Africa.), a funny song with some Team Fortress 2 animations, and your picture. Whew, long blog, huh? See you all soon. :)

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot! Thanks to Xiao for making her "Top 10 Anime Characters" blog a little while back, and reminding me I had to try watching this anime in the first place. :)
