Insomniac Games has a long-standing reputation for delivering some of the best games of all time. With legendary franchises such as Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank amassing acclaim from fans and critics. With Spider-Man PS4 almost here let's look back and see what are the 5 best games from Insomniac.
The Xbox One may be lacking in exclusives but Sunset Overdrive is one game that every Xbox One owner should play. The game combines the best elements known from Insomniac Games such as creative weapons, goofy story and colorful characters.
After a newly released soft drink called Overdrive Delirium XT turns the people of Sunset City in violent boil covered mutants you must find a way to survive the now quarantined zone. On paper, it sounds like the start of a dark adventure but Insomniac's take on the zombie apocalypse is teeming with humor and cartoon violence. With weapons ranging from tradition guns to a sword that summons lightning to add to the humor. Sunset Overdrive is insane crazy fun that everyone who owns an Xbox One should have.
4. Spyro: Year of the Dragon
There's a reason people are excited for the upcoming Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Like Crash Bandicoot Spyro was one of biggest platforming franchises on the PlayStation. It combined all the best elements of an excellent story driven game and the third installment was the best one.
Not only did it provide an array of well-designed levels but it gave players ample reason to continue playing even after completing the main campaign. Obtaining all the Dragon Eggs and Gems unlocked new hidden objectives, leading up to an extra final encounter with the final boss. The ending may of have been short and uneventful but getting to it had players traveling to lush wonderfully designed levels. All of which veteran gamers will get to re-experience this November.
3. Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando
Ratchet and Clank have served as Insomniac's poster boys since they debuted back on the PlayStation 2. The first game served as an excellent introduction to the wacky adventures of the talented mechanic Ratchet and the resourceful robot Clank. However, it was Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando that we got something that went above and beyond.
Not only didn't it deliver more weapons and unique levels teeming with astonishingly designed enemies but the optional content was staggering. No other game in the franchise provided the number of side objectives and secret boss fights like Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando. In addition, there were cheat codes that offered changes like FPS mode. With the exception of the final boss Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando remains the best game in the original series.
After completing the original series Insomniac decided to give Ratchet and Clank another go with a brand new origin and adventure. What came was not only a faithful reinterpretation of the acclaimed franchise but one of the best PS4 games of all time.
Insomanic remained loyal to the original concept with Ratchet and Clank PS4. with a talented mechanic named Ratchet trying to become a hero and defective robot Clank trying to stop a great calamity from transpiring. However, this reboot gave characters like Captain Quark a chance to shine above his original conception. Giving those who played the original someone more to admire about this reboot while providing an outstanding experience for newcomers to the franchise.
Perhaps one of the best FPS games ever made Resistance 3 closed off Insomniac Games' incredible science-fiction trilogy on a high note. The gripping tale had Joseph Capelli taking the lead role as he attempted to save humanity from extinction after losing the war against the Chimera. Faced with impossible odds the story took various twists and turns eventually leading up to an outstanding conclusion that ended the franchise.
There are some lingering questions and although Insomniac has finished with the franchise to explore other IPs, like Spider-Man PS4, at least they ended the trilogy on a high note.
