What I Want From Far Cry 6
What should Far Cry 6 include?
by Grayshadow on Jul 13, 2020
Far Cry 6 has been officially confirmed by Ubisoft, showing off a brand new antagonist and region. With Dani Rojas taking on the dictator Anton Castillo and his son Deigo during a civil war. Having played every major installment from the Far Cry series including Far Cry Primal and Far Cry 5's sequel Far Cry: New Dawn there are some changes I hope this new entry will make to breathe new life into this franchise.
An Actual Protagonist
Most of the Far Cry games featured a blank protagonist. Someone just to ferry the player along as they completed objectives and progressed in the story. Some titles did feature somewhat established characters such as Jason Brody from Far Cry 3 but the recent games have gone in the opposite direction.
Far Cry 5 and Far Cry: New Dawn featured some everybody. With Far Cry 5's sheriff looking to save their friends from the Father's cult and bring him to justice and New Dawn having a random person just show up to fight against the twin's Mickey and Lou. They were nobodies, but the Sheriff did eventually get some character in New Dawn.
Most of the spotlight is placed on the antagonist or allies, which has been the focus on the Far Cry series since its revival. However, I hope that Rojas will have more personality seeing that this is his homeland, born and raised, being ravaged by Anton.
Dog Ally
Boomer and Timber were the best allies in the Far Cry franchise. Have another dog ally in Far Cry 6!
No Progressing Boosters
I've hated the use of "time-savers" in recent Ubisoft titles. With games featuring options to bypass any challenge by buying the most powerful weapons in Far Cry: New Dawn. The most recent installment. Not to mention the massive grind in Assassin's Creed Odyssey that was only resolved by experience boosters until the developers changed it.
It's a lot to ask for, especially in the modern gaming landscape but just don't allow players to get the most powerful item outright.
