What We Want From The Surge 2
What things can The Surge 2 improve on?
by Grayshadow on Feb 07, 2018
With The Surge 2 now officially confirmed, Deck13 has provided some details about the future instalment. Including a new location and weapons but the sequel could benefit from other changes. Here's what we want from The Surge 2.
Difficulty Options
The Surge caters to Dark Souls fans and with it comes one standard mode option. The intense challenge of facing off dangerous enemies using tactical movements and precise attacks forced players to think through each action. Ultimately learning from your mistakes with each death. The issue with this is that it intimidates many gamers who want to try this game.
By offering a difficulty option Deck13 can cater to both those looking for a challenging experience and newcomers to these types of games. It won't sour the gameplay, but I would argue, improve it by giving players a choice of how hard they want the game. Even Ninja Gaiden, the franchise linked to comparing the difficulty of all games before Dark Souls, had options ranging from easy to hard.
Better Direction
One of the biggest issues of The Surge was navigation. The game didn't provide much information on where to go and what to do. This lead to a lot of problematic issues such as backtracking to old areas and the increased risk of getting killed. Better communication of significant areas worth checking out would be of great help in the sequel. Especially considering that Deck13 promises to deliver a more ambitious level design than the first game.
Cooperative Action
Anyone who saw the Netflix's series Dark probably saw the protagonist playing The Surge with his best friend, but this was faked. No plans to include cooperative play in The Surge was designed. This could be an excellent opportunity to bring the feature to The Surge 2. Either as part of the main campaign or a separate story similar to Resistance 2 or Rage.
The Surge 2 is set for a 2019 release.
