Which Game Genre is Dominating the Gaming Industry?

The gaming industry is constantly evolving and coming out with new and innovative games, and the most popular titles and genres are continually changing. Depending on what is popular at the time, games inspired by big titles or sequels of long-awaited games often find themselves in the spotlight before the next big thing comes along.

Whether you’re a fan of adventure games, gaming is a great way to let your hair down and have fun. Keep reading below to look at some of the most popular game genres in the gaming industry!

Open World Game, Elden Ring

Open World

With the advancement of technology and multiplayer becoming more accessible, more and more companies have been straying away from just your average story mode game. They have expanded what players can do in a particular world even once the main story quest has been completed.

Companies want you to keep playing instead of finishing the game and then leaving it to collect dust on your shelf. One of the ways they have been able to do that, aside from introducing multiplayer mode, is by introducing the game in an open-world setting. This opens possibilities for side quests, challenges, and general exploration, which can get you extra rewards and benefits as you progress through the game. Sometimes you may not want to complete the primary mission, might be stuck, or want to relieve some stress. Open world games allow you to roam freely for as little or as long as possible. Some titles for open-world games include:

Horizon Forbidden West

The much-anticipated sequel to Guerilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn is Forbidden West, where you continue your journey as Aloy into, you guessed it, the Forbidden West. Not only was the first game already open world, but they expanded this even further with the sequel and allowed players to explore the Western side of the United States. The modified gameplay, including traversal and underwater swimming, opened up and diversified the challenges and side quests that players could encounter.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Another open-world game, this is probably one of the best in its category. A prequel to Red Dead Redemption, traveling through the world of outlaws in the late 1800s is a unique experience. Horseback riding, investigating mysteries, giving a hand at the stables, and taking train rides from Strawberry to Valentine are just things you can encounter in the Wild West!

Remastered Games

Another genre where we are seeing quite a big surge is classic titles being rebooted for the current and next-gen consoles. Who doesn’t want to play games from their childhood that you have fond memories attached to, but with much better graphics? Not only are a lot of these games getting graphics boosts, but some games are getting some DLC so that players can also play additional content.

Assassin's Creed III Remastered

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

This is a remaster of Crash Bandicoot from 1996, Cortex Strikes Back in 1997, and Warped in 1998; this is a fan favorite, especially for those who grew up playing these games. Initially developed for Playstation, the trilogy was remastered for the PS4 in 2017, with the game being available on other consoles in the following year, including the Nintendo Switch. It’s a treat for new players and veterans alike; it’s a title worth picking up.

Tomb Raider

For a good reason, the action-adventure franchise has gotten quite a few remastered versions! There can never be too much Lara Croft action, with there always being more tombs and ruins to explore. Each game gets the graphic enhancement that we all look forward to, but the bow mechanics become smoother and smoother each time, as well as new and intricate puzzles to solve that always have a worthy reward waiting at the end!

FPS Shooters

A genre that we found has been consistently popular comes in the form of first-person shooter, or FPS, games. A trendy multiplayer option, forming a team to wipe out your opponents never gets old, so there’s never a dull moment!

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

The COD series has always been one of the top FPS games, and Cold War is no exception. Not only have they maintained the classic game modes in multiplayer, but they’ve expanded and introduced a new storyline for Zombies and a new 40 team fireteam mode. With COD, new maps and storylines are always something to look forward to, but there’s comfort in knowing that the gameplay mechanics will remain familiar.

Valorant

Another FPS title, Valorant, allows players to either be on the offense, or the defense, with each team consisting of five players. This FPS is incredibly unique because each agent has a particular skill set and abilities that they can use when fighting. Hence, it allows players to customize their play style depending on the character they pick. While weapons are something that remains more or less the same for all players, the shooting pattern varies from weapon to weapon, meaning that you have to pay attention if you want to fire accurately.
