Why Nintendo decided not to make a Super Mario Galaxy 3
News by Grayshadow on Jun 13, 2013
The Super Mario Galaxy series has garnered a large amount of respect from critics and consumers for being one of the primary reasons for getting a Wii. So why wasn't a third title announced for the Wii U? It was because of cooperative play.
IGN’s executive editor, Richard George, spoke with project director Koichi Hayashida and Producor Yoshiaki who said the reason they decided to make Super Mario 3D World instead of a new Galaxy title was because of 4-player local cooperative play. They wanted to implement it in the 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land, but couldn’t due to lack of power and believed that the Wii U would be capable of bringing their vision to life.
