Nintendo Planning To Release New Switch Games

Rumors over an updated Nintendo gaming device have been rife for a while, but it would appear that there is still life in the beloved Switch yet – as the Japanese company is set to release an array of new games specifically for it. The Switch has been hugely popular for several years, earning plaudits, and somewhat of a cult following, for its wonderful simplicity. Nintendo President, Shuntaro Furukawa, earlier this year stated that “many games”  were planned - and it looks like we are on the verge of seeing just which titles fans can expect to see.

Already this month, games such as The Long Dark, WWE 2K Battlegrounds, and Super Mario 3D All-Stars have been released to Switch users, but there are lots more to come. It's set to be a huge couple of months for the gaming industry, with Xbox and PlayStation both primed to bring out new, ground-breaking consoles. It is therefore unsurprising that Nintendo doesn’t want to be left behind or forgotten about – hence the new Switch games.

Despite first coming out in 2016, the Switch remains remarkably popular, a sign of its enduring charm. One suspects that it will still maintain a substantial user base even when an updated version is eventually released, which again shows just why the Japanese firms are so keen to give fans more of what they want.

October is set to gift users another two Super Mario titles, with Super Mario Bros. 35 landing on the 1st of the month before the latest iteration of Mario Kart comes to the device on October 10th. Also, Ys origin will be refreshed, alongside Cadence of Hyrule.

November brings yet another batch of releases, as Just Dance makes a triumphant return. Meanwhile, in December, Fitness Boxing 2 – Rhythm and Exercise is slated for release, alongside the latest chapter of the Final Fantasy Legend franchise - and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. One thing we can glean from the new titles is that the addition and continuation of fitness apps perhaps give us an indication as to what will feature on the next-generation handheld console. With devices like the Apple Watch gamifying the fitness experience, Nintendo may choose to make this a core focus moving forwards.

However, it doesn’t end here as far as Switch game releases go. Currently, there are several games that have been confirmed but don’t yet have a fixed release date. DOOM Eternal is one title that many fans are looking forward to, but thus far, we are still none the wiser as to when it will be available – though it is still expected to be this year. The same can also be said of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which is due to land sometime in the coming months.

Despite 2021 being the year in which we could see the tech manufacturer unveil a new system, the list of Switch games due to be released in that time highlights their commitment to the current generation device. Super Mario 3D World +Bowser Fury, Balan Underworld, Monster Hunter Rise, and Disgaea are just some of the titles that will go on sale sometime after the turn of the year.

Switch sales have been consistently excellent throughout 2020 despite its age, so the push to continue producing new games for it is certainly a logical move. The success of Animal Crossings: New Horizons is a testament to the fact that one great game can reinvent a console. Nintendo will be hopeful that the new batch of releases can have similarly galvanizing effects over the coming months.
