Rockstar Games has released a new GTA 6 trailer on October 15, giving you another look at Jason, Lucia, and the criminal trouble waiting for them in Leonida. The 90-second trailer includes fresh footage, new details about Jason’s military background, and another reminder that the game is scheduled to launch on November 19.
Rather than recycling familiar scenes or offering a short promotional spot, Rockstar has provided enough new material to give fans more details to examine. The footage also arrives alongside a report from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, who has shared more about the lengthy and complicated development process behind the upcoming sequel.

One of the most interesting moments comes when Jason explains that he got into trouble in the army and did not leave on the best terms.
He also mentions that people like him struggle to get loans, suggesting that his past continues to affect his civilian life. The trailer shows a bearded Jason working at Brian’s marina, buffing a boat before receiving a call from Lucia. Although the footage does not establish exactly when every scene takes place, it presents Jason as someone trying to get by while dealing with financial problems and a history he has not escaped.
The military sequences offer another glimpse into Jason’s background, showing him moving through water alongside a unit and jumping out of a helicopter during an operation. These scenes could be flashbacks, but Rockstar has not confirmed when they occur or whether Jason served in special forces.
His past could be an important part of the story, especially if players experience the events that shaped him rather than just hearing about them. Meanwhile, Lucia remains central to the narrative, with her ankle monitor potentially hinting at restrictions on her movements early in the game, although that possibility remains speculation.
The trailer also reinforces the relationship between Jason and Lucia as they prepare to deal with increasingly serious problems. Rockstar’s official story setup describes an unremarkable robbery going wrong, leaving the pair caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida. Their situation becomes more complicated as they depend on each other to survive, with their dialogue suggesting that neither knows exactly how things will turn out.
Rockstar has also revealed that Justice composed the game’s original dynamic score. The trailer features their track “Flower in a Hurricane,” which brings together Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. The music announcement adds another interesting detail to a game already attracting attention for its setting and presentation.
Elsewhere, a scene featuring a man working out appears to showcase the sweat system previously discussed by fans, suggesting that physical exertion could influence character animations and environmental realism. If implemented as expected, the feature could make characters look visibly affected by their activities, adding another layer of detail to the game's already impressive visual presentation.

While the trailer offers a clearer picture of the characters, Schreier’s report provides a broader look at the development journey that brought GTA 6 to this point.
Rockstar began research trips to Miami around 2015, when the project was associated with a much larger concept known as Project Americas. The original ambition reportedly involved locations across North and South America before the team narrowed its focus to Miami and the surrounding Florida-inspired setting.
By the end of 2019, the team had established the basic story involving Jason and Lucia. That timeline is important because the 13 years since GTA 5 launched do not represent 13 years of the entire company working continuously on its sequel. Rockstar also had to determine how much realism from Red Dead Redemption 2 belonged in GTA 6. Schreier highlighted decisions involving everyday activities, such as buying beer, where developers had to consider whether players should simply press a button or physically take a case from a refrigerator and pay for it.
These small decisions can have an effect on a number of interconnected systems, such as animations, objects, non-player character reactions, and the wanted system. Rockstar also has to make sure that everyday tasks don’t become rote chores, even if physically interacting with objects might make things like robbing stores more engaging.
The COVID-19 pandemic has complicated development as employees juggled remote schooling, childcare, and other issues while working from home. Schreier said that the game’s direction became more apparent around 2022, and the first trailer in 2023 helped the wider company understand the vision.
During this time, Rockstar’s workforce has also grown significantly, from 2,441 in 2018 to 4,711 in August 2026. Those numbers include people working on GTA Online, publishing, and other responsibilities, but the expansion helped the company's broader development efforts. Rockstar also opened a Los Angeles studio dedicated to non-player characters, bringing together writers, directors, and producers to improve the characters players will meet across the world. But more people does not equal faster development.
The report also describes disagreements and uncertainty surrounding the game's direction.
Rockstar has three people sharing the head of development title: Rob Nelson, Aaron Garbett, and Phil Hooker. Some employees reportedly described conflicting guidance and indecision among leadership, while Nelson disputed that characterization. The game's budget remains undisclosed, with Rockstar telling Schreier that it cost less than the Burj Khalifa, which reportedly cost around $1.5 billion.

Rockstar has also invested considerable effort in making its world feel alive. The report discusses nightclub systems in which individual characters, music, and lighting work together, with lights responding to the rhythm. The sweat effects highlighted in the new trailer also relate to physical exertion, meaning characters could sweat more as they dance harder.
Another key part of the development story has been workplace conditions. Rockstar reportedly tried to get away from the crunch culture that happened with Red Dead Redemption 2, bringing in a stricter schedule and increasing its workforce. Publishing head Jen Colby described leadership's decision not to finish GTA 6 under the same working conditions, while the company also removed managers who had faced complaints about abusive behavior or excessive overtime.
Rockstar also introduced an opt-in policy that gives employees an hour of time off for every additional hour worked.
But some employees were frustrated by the company's return-to-office mandates. In 2024, employees will have to work from the office full-time because the 2022 hack increased security and limited remote access to work devices. More footage from the CyberLeek leaks has surfaced, with employees reportedly growing even more frustrated, especially after agreeing to restrictions that limited their flexibility but didn’t stop more material from appearing online.
The situation includes an ongoing dispute involving 34 dismissed workers. Rockstar says the dismissals were related to leaks and serious misconduct, while the workers have alleged union busting. Schreier reported that litigation remains ongoing, and the company's other workplace changes have not resolved the allegations.
GTA 6's delays have also revealed how difficult it has been to establish a reliable release schedule. Rockstar leadership reportedly believed the original 2025 window was achievable when they announced it, although some employees closer to daily development were skeptical.

The company subsequently targeted May before moving the release to November, with Colby recalling that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick responded to the latest delay by asking, “You're kidding? Please tell me you're kidding.” Rockstar has attributed the delays to several issues accumulating over time, including technical problems, communication difficulties, changing decisions, and individual parts of the game taking longer than expected.
Looking ahead, Rockstar believes the engine, tools, and team built for GTA 6 could help it deliver content more efficiently in the future. The report likens that potential to the transition from GTA 3 to Vise City, when the studio was able to build on an established foundation rather than starting from scratch.
That doesn’t just mean future story DLC or a release schedule for another game, but it does indicate that Rockstar wants to better use the technology and experience it’s built up. The new trailer gives us a better look at Jason and Lucia, but the real test will be whether it can meet those ambitions when GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026.
