With fresh releases and fluctuating price points, the market for gaming handhelds is heating up. There is more conjecture than ever before over the Xbox Ally X's ultimate price due to recent competition introductions.

Although the official price has not yet been disclosed, comparisons with other devices help clarify the situation, and existing market indicators suggest a possible range.

Recent Changes in Market Prices

The Lenovo Legion Go 2, which debuted at a hefty $1350 in the US, although other listings claimed it would cost about $1099 internationally, was one of the biggest surprises. Alongside that, the MSI Claw A8 has also entered the market with pricing finally appearing more consistent.

Initially, it was only spotted at inflated prices through third-party sellers, but now pre-orders are open through multiple retailers with a confirmed cost of $850.

Availability and Pre-Orders

Retailers show varying delivery timelines for the MSI Claw A8. Some list it as shipping immediately, while others indicate a shipping time of within a week, and a few expect a wait of up to 4 weeks.

Despite this inconsistency, the important takeaway is that a firm price is now visible—$850. That figure is crucial when comparing it against both the Lenovo Legion Go 2 and the upcoming Xbox Ally X.

Comparing Specs Across Devices

When we look closely, the MSI Claw A8 mirrors much of what the Xbox Ally X is expected to deliver. Both share the Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, though the Claw A8 lacks the AI variant. Memory is also competitive with 24GB at 8000MT/s, plus a 1TB NVMe SSD.

Where it stands apart is its larger 8-inch 16:10 display running at 120Hz, compared to the smaller 7-inch panel expected on the Ally X.

The Lenovo Legion Go 2, although significantly more expensive, justifies some of the cost with its 8.8-inch OLED VRR display, which may be a custom panel designed specifically for the device. That premium display is where much of the added price comes in.

Where the Xbox Ally X Could Land

We believe Asus and Microsoft are targeting a more competitive range for the Xbox Ally X. Since the Ally X reuses the same 7-inch display found in the original ROG Ally, production costs should be lower, allowing more aggressive pricing.

Larger-scale production between Asus and Microsoft could further drive down costs, giving them an advantage over MSI and Lenovo.

Realistically, we expect the Xbox Ally X to launch at around $850, directly matching the MSI Claw A8. At most, it could reach $899, but it's unlikely to exceed $900. That pricing would place it at least $200 cheaper than the Lenovo Legion Go 2, making it the more accessible option for many players.

Why Pricing Matters Right Now

With the device expected to be released in a month, opening pre-orders soon is essential. Without a clear price, many gamers may hold back from committing. If Asus and Microsoft can deliver at $850, it would be a major win, combining the Xbox brand, tailored gaming OS, and full feature set at a highly competitive cost.

For many of us, the MSI Claw A8 looks tempting with its bigger 8-inch 16:10 display, especially for visually rich games where that extra screen real estate makes a difference. However, if the Xbox Ally X lands at $850 with its refined ecosystem and tight Microsoft integration, it becomes the stronger all-around option.

The real challenge will be how Asus positions the ROG Ally X alongside it, given its current pricing overlaps.

Until the official announcement, all we can do is speculate. But with the latest developments, the most realistic expectation is that the Xbox Ally X will hit shelves at $850–$899, carving out a competitive and attractive spot in the handheld gaming market.
