Doom: The Dark Ages Guide | How To Destroy The Gore Portals In 'Defend The City'

You will start by charging at the portals. These portals are very similar to the ones from Chapter One.

Charging the Gore Portals

The approach is simple—just attack them directly and deal with the enemies around them. Make sure to eliminate all the big enemies nearby.

Sometimes, the portal won't go down unless you do, even if some minor enemies are still around. Clearing the heavy hitters can often be enough to deactivate the portal.

Once the first Gore Portal goes down, move past it. Expect some tanks and resistance in the area, but you can barge through them and initiate the next onslaught.

Clearing the Way to the Leader

As you push through, keep going forward. There may be a secret area nearby if you want to explore it, but you can also ignore it and stay on the main objective.

Eventually, you'll come up to an area where you have to deal with a leader enemy. This leader is protected by a shield, which is indicated by an orange or purple bar above their head.

In order to disable that shield, you need to eliminate the smaller enemies around the area. Once enough of them are taken out, the shield will drop, and you'll be able to engage the leader directly.

Focusing on the larger enemies helps you deplete the morale faster. As soon as the leader is exposed, take them out and grab any weapon boosts, such as a buff to your spike gun, if available.

Progressing Toward the Portal

After defeating the leader, proceed through the door ahead. Take out the next wave of enemies to unlock the gate. Be cautious here, as this zone is filled with explosives. Keep moving and pick up healing as needed.

You'll eventually come across a portal. Use it to jump inside and continue the mission.

Entering the Cultist Area

Once you pass through the portal, you'll reach the cultist zone. Here, you'll need to defeat more enemies and then face a puzzle. That puzzle is part of the next section and continues beyond the scope of destroying the Gore Portals.

At this point, the objective of shutting down the Gore Portals is complete.
