In Chapter 6 of Doom: The Dark Ages, a puzzle involving a few statues must be completed to get a valuable ruby. You'll be able to find the puzzle area on the map—it's near your starting location, so don't miss it as you make your way through the level opening.

The Objective

The objective is to destroy three statues scattered around the place. After the statues are destroyed, you can loot the ruby. The problem is easy, but it may be confusing if you don't know where to find them or what to shoot.

Destroying the Statues

The first statue has a beam of light directly in front of it. You will see you are there when you look up, and a glow will descend on it. Shoot carefully and throw your shield directly at the middle of the statue. If you make a good throw, the shield will hit the middle and the statue will explode.

After the first statue is destroyed, proceed to the next spot. There will be a cart here—check just behind it. There will be a statue in this space. Throw your shield in the centre like you did before to break it. You may have accidentally set this one off if you are revisiting the area, but if not, it will be in the rear of the cart and relatively easy to see.

The third statue is in a different area. Approach it and do the same: shoot at the centre and toss your shield. Again, a shot straight into the middle will blow up the statue. After killing all three statues, you can hear something indicating the puzzle is done.

Looting the Ruby

With all the statues destroyed, proceed to where you first viewed the barrier. That barrier will now be missing, revealing the path onward. Proceed forward, and you'll discover the ruby waiting at the end of this newly opened portion. Simply take it to finish the puzzle and receive your reward.

Solving the dog statue puzzle in Chapter 6 doesn't require much combat or platforming, but it's easy to miss if you rush through the level. Just remember to look for the three statue locations, aim for the centres, and use your shield to destroy them. Once you've done that, grabbing the ruby is straightforward. It's an easy way to loot the ruby at the beginning of the chapter, and it's worth the time.
