In Chapter 9 of Doom: The Dark Ages, you'll face a statue puzzle that unlocks your first major upgrade item—the Wraith Stone. This puzzle involves destroying three statues scattered across the Ancestral Forge. To begin, head to the back right corner of the map. Before starting the puzzle, go to the upper area and grab the silver key first. Once you've done that, go to the section with the three statues.

Destroying the First Statue

The first one is right in that back corner space. Look up, and there is the statue way up there. Just toss your shield at it—it will burst on impact. That deals with the first statute.

Destroying the Second Statue

Then you'll have to go back to the start of the level. From where you are, go back towards the start. Walking forward, you will see the Sentinel Shrine to your right, indicating that you're on the right path. Continue walking forward until you arrive at the starting region of the map in Doom: The Dark Ages. When you get there, leave the room and kill a waiting enemy. Inside, there is the second statue. Throw your shield in the middle to destroy it like before.

Be prepared for a fight after destroying the second statue, which releases a wave of spawning enemies. You'll need to kill many enemies before proceeding, so prepare yourself and get healed before the fight.

Reaching the Third Statue

After clearing the enemies, reach the top left section of the map in Doom: The Dark Ages. This area initially contains a few enemies, though they may already be cleared out depending on your earlier path. Head into the nearby chamber, and you'll spot the third statue. Throw your shield at it just like before to destroy it. This does not appear to initiate a significant enemy battle by itself, though any remaining enemies in the vicinity might still need to be eliminated.

After destroying all three statues in Doom: The Dark Ages, return to the wolf statue—the starting puzzle location in the back right corner. There will be another wave of enemies to defeat at this time. Destroy them all to open up the path ahead.

With the area secure, you'll finally be able to enter the room and claim your reward: your first Wraith Stone. This item marks the beginning of your upgrade path and is a crucial asset for the rest of the game.
