Legion Go 2 Performance Showcase with Modern AAA Games

High-performance handheld gaming continues to evolve with demanding current-generation titles running smoothly on optimized portable hardware.

A lot of testing has been done on the Lenovo Legion Go over the past few months with a lot of different games. There have been more than 100 optimized game tests since November 1, and there are no intentions to slow down. At least 75 additional games will be evaluated in the future, thanks to Game Pass access.

The focus has been on games from the current generation, which usually require a lot of power and aren't recognized for being easy to optimize on handheld devices. We left out games that are heavily funded, only available on consoles, or that have typically been well-optimized, so the list would include only games that really test the hardware. Now that we have those rules in place, here are the five best games we've tested so far.

Honorable Mentions & Things Not to Include

Before getting to the main list, some categories were intentionally left out. We didn't include Rockstar Games because they have huge development budgets and are very well optimized, as seen in the complex systems in Red Dead Redemption 2. People don't consider these games realistic benchmarks; they see them as outliers.

We also left out Sony exclusives because many of them already work well across multiple platforms. There was no need to list these titles here because people have already played them on other systems.

There was a distinct group for Microsoft console exclusives, such as Avowed and Indiana Jones. These games are optimized for certain hardware, such as Forza Horizon and Stellar Blade. They work fine, but they weren't designed to work on many different devices.

ARC Raiders

Fifth on the list is ARC Raiders. The first match, streamed live on Legion Go, lived up to expectations. With the right settings, we were able to get a steady 60 fps at 120p. while keeping the picture clear. One of the best things about it was how silently it worked, even though it was so fast.

The average battery life while playing was about 2 hours and 15 minutes, and winning matches was not always assured. Even so, the overall experience was fluid and responsive, which makes ARC Raiders a great game for mobile play.

Borderlands 4 is in fourth place. Even though there were some technological problems at first, the engineers made significant progress in a short time. It shouldn't have been released with bugs, but the work to fix them should be praised.

When ray tracing is enabled, the game runs at about 30-40 fps at 25TDP. Even though those statistics don't look very high, the performance is worth it because of the high-quality visuals enabled by modern lighting techniques. The game does a good job of making everything look the same, which sets it apart from other handheld games.

Silent Hill F

Silent Hill: F came out of nowhere with its unique art style and story that stays with you. The game ran very well on the Legion Go during a second run, even with ray-traced effects. This showed what Unreal Engine 5 can do when it is set up correctly.

The OLED screen performs well in darker scenes and with lighting effects. We got about 40 fps at 20TDP with the best settings. Increasing the indirect lighting to 25TDP at 1600x1000 gives better results. This title is a great portable experience because it strikes a good mix between performance and image quality.

Black Myth: Wukong

The first scene of Black Myth: Wukong gave players a cinematic experience that they didn't expect so early in the game. The graphics remained clear, smooth, and free of upscaling artifacts, even without much tweaking.

After more adjustments, the picture quality was as good as that of a console. One important thing we learned from testing is that not all ways of upscaling make the picture look better. Sometimes, turning off upscaling gave better results. Legion Go game looks great when the settings are good.

Doom: The Dark Ages

Doom: The Dark Ages is number one. It shows how ray-traced games should work on portable devices. The new options for mobile devices let you get higher resolution and better performance without losing visual clarity.

Fighting is still fast and responsive, and heavy attacks still feel like they matter. It's crucial to be able to see clearly during heavy fighting, and the game makes sure that you can. The OLED panel enhances HDR display by improving lighting and contrast. The whole experience shows how nicely the game has been adapted for handheld devices.

Final Thoughts

These five titles show what the Lenovo Legion Go can do right now if developers put in the time to optimize it correctly. Each game has its own strengths, such as consistent framerates and controlled power use.
