Marvelous Inc has confirmed that Tencent will invest a HK$ 500 million stake. Once completed, Tencent will own 20% equity in Marvelous and become primary shareholder.
Marvelous Inc, along with its subsidiary Xseed Games, have been the developer and/or publisher for games and franchises like God Eater 3, Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, Daemon X Machina, the Rune Factory series, the Story of Seasons (formerly Harvest Moon) series, and the Senran Kagura series.
In addition to games, Marvelous produces anime through its Artland subsidiary. This includes adaptations of video games like Senran Kagura, as well as manga adaptations and original series.
Tencent already has a large stake in the video game industry. It is the sole owner of studios like Riot Games, Funcom, and Sharkmob. The Chinese company also has investments of various size in Supercell, Epic Games, Netmarble, Platinum Games, Ubisoft, Bluehole and others.
Currently, this is only a financial investment. Neither Marvelous nor Tencent have stated if operations or management will change with this deal.
