Type-Moon and French Bread have announced that a new entry in the Melty Blood fighting game series will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch later in 2021. The fast paced fighting game series is based on Type-Moon’s adult visual novels Tsukihime and Kagetsu Tohya. To keep Melty Blood Type Lumina even closer to the source material, French Bread will be culling the roster of its original creations and only retaining Type-Moon’s characters. The developer believes this will create a much more balanced and tightknit experience.
French Bread was inspired by the success of Granblue Fantasy Versus’ use of unique fully voiced character interactions and will use the same setup in Melty Blood Type Lumina. Although Type-Moon has become famous due to the popular Fate/ series, this roster reduction makes it unlikely for those characters to make any crossover of cameos.
Although considered a solid fighting game series, Melty Blood has become a running joke at fighting game tournaments due to past venue and scheduling issues. This has resulted in die-hard fans purposely playing in unorthodox locations such as hallways, bathrooms, outside, at restaurants, and on top of garbage bins.
