Yooka-Laylee, the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie, is almost ready for the Nintendo Switch. After struggling to bring the game to Nintendo's system Playtonic Games has provided an update on their issues with the port.
“We’ve encountered some final technical hurdles and had been waiting for the arrival of Unity 5.6 in order to fix them. Although this has now been released, it has unfortunately introduced other issues which we are working with Unity to resolve before we can submit to Nintendo and lock in our release timeline.”
Maybe we won't have to wait much longer, however, considering that the Fall season is when all the most anticipated games come out Playtonic may be in a race against the clock. Considering that other versions of the game are available at a discounted price paying the full price for a Switch version, which may have issues at launch judging from the developer's quote, some may pass up this version altogether.
Yooka-Laylee launched on Xbox One, PS4, and PC back in April with mediocre reviews. Many praised the developers for remaining loyal to the core platforming gameplay of the N64 era but also criticizing that these same mechanics did not age well.
Yooka-Laylee is now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
