Aggretsuko isn't just an anime series on Netflix anymore. Since this week, Aggretsuko: the short timer strikes back, as the game is called, is available on mobile platforms, such as Android. Like many licensed properties before it, however, it's also not great.

Aggretsuko is part of an office building that is overworking the little red panda. The small clerk is tasked with redecorating the office, which serves as an empty grind fest. Currency unlocks new furniture, but there is no value to the gear, other than showing a completion rate. The meat and potatoes of the game is a match-3 puzzle game, where players line up heads from characters on the show. Multiples will make the blocks either disappear or transform the line into a special, single use item. Yes, just like any other licensed property, this game does nothing new that Bejeweled didn't already achieve ages ago.

Atop the tried and tried puzzle mechanism, Aggretsuko places an additional grindstone with endless objectives, achievements and other miniature goals to work towards, to unlock a shred of a certain currency. Some items will unlock new characters that have a minor special attack during puzzles. One reward allows the player to use as many hearts as they want, which are normally limited, to perform actions in the game. Just like gasha systems, everything placed in here is a mill.

One of the only redeeming qualities the game has is that playing through stages unlocks minute-long episodes, which aired in Japan in 2015. These tiny reels condense the tribulations of the show, complete with the karaoke release that Aggretsuko allows themselves after hours.

While the game is inoffensive and worth a free download, this mobile release of Aggretsuko deserved more than just the bare minimum of what it takes to release a game. Other than just relating to the content from Hello Kitty house Sanrio, the systems in place have very little flair to them.
