Developer Neocore Games have announced a new game, called Deathtrap. It’s a tower defense game that’s already up and coming, planned for release on PC through Steam in fall of 2014. That’s some pretty swift marketing there.

Deathtrap features a mix of action roleplaying game (RPG) and defense mechanisms through illustrious mazes and other medieval and fantasy hybrid locations. So, per the model, you’ll be tasked with setting up structures to protect yourself and keep hordes of undead and other nasty creatures from overrunning the area. Gameplay includes the possiblity of cooperative play with up to 4 people.

You’ll also be able to personify a certain hero and monsters are able to drop loot and potions to help you out. Upgrade mechanisms increase the potency of your traps and other machines, so there are a few things to take into account.

Currently, Deathtrap is announced for Steam, but a build for Playstation 4 and Xbox One will follow later. It will cost $19.99 on release.

Some may remember Neocore Games from their recent Van Helsing RPG releases. That would also explain why the second one had such tower defense designs implemented in an otherwise more Diablo-like game. At least they’re spinning off into their own thing now, so we don’t need to repeat that weird Assassin’s Creed Revelations part we had to suffer through.

There’s an announcement trailer, but other than showing a monster going through a gauntlet, you won’t be getting much info out of that just yet.

Personally, I enjoy Neocore Games mainly for their excellent King Arthur strategy RPG series in association with publisher Paradox Interactive. If anything, it should strengthen the idea that they know how to balance a challenging tower defense title like Deathtrap.
