Crypto 137, an alien clone soldier, has crash-landed on 1950s Earth while attempting to secure the planet for an otherworldly ruling organization known as the Furon Empire. As players control Crypto, they are required to eliminate humans and learn from when whenever possible. With a unique combination of exploration and varied weapons, this 2005 classic is sure to bring players back to a simpler time.
Because of its age, "Destroy All Humans" is a game with quite a few jokes that have not aged well. However, the developers of this remastered classic wanted the game to remain as identical as possible. In an attempt to warn users about impending jokes, this message at the beginning of the game: "While the experience has been upgraded, the content and historical record of the original invasion of the Furons remains a near-identical clone." In other words, the gameplay and graphics of the game have been updated, but be prepared for dated, references and jokes. For example, a joke concerning Milton Berle may be unfamiliar to many players, as well as the fact that gamers can use anal probes to interrogate humans.
Despite its aged details, the game paints a clear picture of the 1950s era Cold War atmosphere, helped immensely with the game's updated animation and improved voice actors to keep players immersed. Additionally, the game has added a semi-open world for players to explore, complete challenges and destroy all humans. This will allow players to re-conquer sandbox areas all over again, completing a collection of challenges, or just enjoying the map and revitalized gameplay of the nostalgia-inducing title.
In order to update the game for modern times, the clunky and individualized controls have been altered to offer a smoother experience for players looking to relive their childhood without suffering the controls and graphics from 2005. For example, users are now able to use multiple abilities at once, rather than swapping between weapons and telekinesis, or granting players the opportunity to take on human likenesses, reading the minds and hypnotizing the inhabitants of Earth. The repetitive mission structure may remain, but the freedom of the game's variety of weapons and skills help to make the game entertaining. Although it still has yet to be revealed if this is a soft reboot of the series or just a simple remaster, Destroy All Humans is a welcome 'blast from the past,' allowing players to conquer the world all over again.
Destroy All Humans: Remastered will release on July 28, 2020.
