Final Fantasy, Call of Duty, Dragon Quest, and more fuel speculation ahead of September's showcase.

A lot of rumors are going around about Nintendo, and for good reason. A lot of trustworthy people, like Kit Ellis, who used to be Nintendo's marketing lead, have said that a September Nintendo Direct is almost certain to happen. The time seems ideal, since the Switch 2 is still getting ready to go on sale and big games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are still up in the air.

Ellis said that September 11 or 12 was the most likely date. This is just before Mario's 40th birthday, which is a big deal for Nintendo and shouldn't be missed. To make things even more interesting, a new rumor dropped an interesting hint: the Direct will include three games whose names include the number seven.

It's not like most industry hints, which are vague. This one is eerily specific, leading forums, Reddit threads, and fan groups to speculate. From what's being said, it looks like one of those games is almost certainly Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Square Enix has already shown the game in action at events like PAX and Gamescom.

Initial impressions suggest that it runs surprisingly well on the upcoming Switch 2, with a steady 30 frames per second and clear graphics when played in handheld mode. It should look even better when docked. Since Square Enix wants to bring the whole trio to Nintendo's next-gen hybrid, it looks like it will be included.

It has been said that the second "7" could be Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Now that Microsoft has agreed to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo systems for 10 years, it's not a matter of if, but when. This deal was made while the FTC was looking into the Activision Blizzard deal. Even though it might not come out at the same time on PS4 and Xbox, a reveal at the Direct could reassure people who weren't sure about the relationship.

Fans can make up anything they want for the third game. Some people think it might be a remake or re-release of Dragon Quest 7, since Square Enix has been working hard to improve and update previous games in the series. Some people thought Ace Attorney 7 would be the winner, but it wouldn't be in this Direct. A lot of different ideas, from Resident Evil 7 to Soul Calibur 7, have been thrown around online because of this.

The specifics of this story are what make it so interesting. Teases about genres or series are common, but naming three games with "7" in the title makes it sound like you really know what you're talking about. And since the Direct is almost here, we'll find out soon.

It looks like this Direct will be more than just the "three sevens." There are still things Nintendo needs to do on both platforms:

But Hollow Knight: Silksong, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Octopath Traveler 0 are still not out for the Switch. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D, Hades II, Borderlands 4, and Persona 3 Reload are all confirmed games for the Switch 2.

If Nintendo really wants this to be a historic show, they could make it even more memorable by celebrating Mario's 40th anniversary at the same time as the big announcements.
