SUP3R5's PS2-style PS5 Has Been Cancelled

Custom console and controller company SUP3R5 has cancelled production of their "Inspired by Retro" Playstation 5, and have deleted their official Twitter account.



300 of the Playstation 2-inspired systems went on sale in North America last Friday for $649 each. The launch was somewhat of a disaster; the console's sold out extremely fast, with some people being charged without confirmation of their order. The company released an official statement apologising and offering a full refund.

Shortly after postponing the international launch, the company deleted their official Twitter account, citing "credible threats" to their team's safety.
SUP3R5 stated that in order to protect their team, they would be cancelling all orders and will return if it is determined "safe to try again".

Twitter users responded frustratedly; many were unconvinced cancelling all orders was the correct thing to do, while others speculated that the whole thing was some sort of marketing ploy.

It still remains unclear what actually happened. Hopefully, more information will follow in the coming weeks.
