The Forest Crash Lands onto Steam Early Access Next Week

Another Early Access title to contemplate supporting, The Forest lands on Steam Early Access next week.

Hate 'em or love 'em, Early Access titles seem to be this year's hottest commodity. There've been many Early Access disasters and just as many success stories, and The Forest is looking like it will land in the latter category.

The premise of The Forest is a simple one. Players are the lone survivor of a plane crash and find themselves smack-dab in the middle of a mysterious, haunting forest, populated with mutant cannibals. Everything within The Forest is consistently changing. From weather patterns to the wavering tides, the game's environment is continually threatening your survival.

In order to survive, players must first have the basics: food and shelter. Use trees to build a base, scavenge for seeds to grow food and light a fire to keep warm. Without these you'll be a sitting duck, open for attack from the cannibals that are just a bit too human-like. Of course, hiding away isn't your only option. Players can "use stealth to evade enemies, or engage them directly with crude weapons built from sticks and stones."

The Forest has been in development for quite some time, and it's looking pretty fantastic. However, the developer, Endnight Games, writes, "We’ve come a long way but still have a lot of features and improvements to make." With this being said, Steam users need to remind themselves just what Early Access is before complaining about wasted time and money.

"Please only purchase the game during this stage if you want to help support development and provide feedback and suggestions to the team," writes Endnight Games. Remember, it's Early Access, not a finished AAA title.

The Forest will be available as a Steam Early Access title on May 30, priced at $14.99. This just might be one of the few, if any, Early Access games you'll want to dive right into.
